Science Lesson 2
Big Idea: Electricity is a type of energy in which electrons move through a medium. Materials
that allow electricity to flow through them are conductors and materials that do not allow
electricity to flow through them are insulators.
Lesson Objectives:
Students will then predict in their science notebooks whether classroom items are
conductors or insulators by using the writing frame Based on my observations of
conductors and insulators from the electrical circuit, I predict our classroom
contains the following conductors and insulators because
Students will test their predictions by using the electrical circuit to determine
whether the classroom items they predicted are conductors or insulators.
Explore: Students test their predictions of whether classroom items are conductors
or insulators.
Explain: Students use their science notebooks to explain why they think items in
the classroom are conductors or insulators based on their observations of the
electrical circuit.
Elaborate: Students use the information they collected from the materials I
provided them to form predictions of whether classroom items are conductors or
insulators.
Evaluate: Students evaluate why they think classroom items are conductors or
insulators in their science notebooks.
Assessment Strategies:
In their science notebooks students will create a chart to identify which materials
are conductors or insulators.
Using the provided writing frame, students will explain their predictions in their
science notebooks about which classroom items are conductors and insulators
based on their observations of the provided materials.
Students will compare and contrast their observations with the provided materials
to the classroom items by creating a graphic organizer in their science notebooks.
