I am writing to indicate my interest in sharing my talents as a middle school science teacher with
the Clark County School District. I am a recent graduate of Nevada State College with a
Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education with a concentration in Environmental and
Resource Science. My degree focused on life science and earth science with a human impact
overlay, while my student teaching experience at Burkholder Middle School allowed me to teach
8th grade physical science. I have a unique set of skills that will make me a valuable asset for the
Clark County School District.
I have learned a great deal in the past couple of years. Nevada State College prepared me
through coursework in the fields of education and science, and I am proud to include that I
graduated magna cum laude. My student teaching experience has allowed me to move to the
next level. Due in great part to the support of my Cooperating Teacher, I have developed
pedagogical skills in planning, classroom management, and teaching science through discovery.
I am equipped with all of the tools necessary to teach the students of this community.
While my degree and student teaching internship have given me some of what I need to succeed,
I am fortunate to have other experience upon which to draw. I recently retired after a twentyfour year career as a Park Ranger. This unique blend of law enforcement and environmental
education has provided me with life skills that are readily transferable into the classroom.
During my career, I became adept at both gaining cooperation, and instilling an appreciation for
the natural world. I am eager to use these skills as a middle school science teacher.
Thank you for allowing me to present my credentials through this letter and my resume. I look
forward to having the opportunity to meet with you. Then, I can personally share my love of
science and passion for learning, and embark on the next step of my journey, educating the future
leaders of our planet.
