SAMPLE WARN NOTICE FOR EMPLOYEES

[LA TIMES LETTERHEAD]

January 7, 2010

VIA HAND DELIVERY

[NAME]

Dear [NAME]:

Los Angeles Times Communications LLC (“Los Angeles Times”) has decided to
restructure the paper and eliminate certain jobs. As a result of that decision, your
position will be eliminated.

At this time, the Los Angeles Times anticipates that the position
eliminations will take place on March 15, 2010, and you will then be
permanently separated from employment with the Los Angeles Times. In
connection with this decision, you will not have the right to bump or
displace other employees working for the Los Angeles Times. Although
some work may cease prior to March 15, 2010, you are expected to
continue reporting for work if asked, as we have work for you to do. In the
event no further work is available for you or the Los Angeles Times
determines it is no longer necessary for you to report to work, the Los
Angeles Times will so notify you and you will continue to be paid at your
current pay rate with full benefits and service credit through March 15,
2010.

To the extent that the above actions constitute a covered event under the
California or federal WARN Acts, or any other notice laws, this letter is
intended to fulfill any requirements imposed under such laws. By
providing this information, the Los Angeles Times does not concede that
such laws apply or that notice is otherwise required.

If you have any questions about this announcement, please contact Leticia
Bugarin, Human Resources Manager, Los Angeles Times, 202 West First Street, Los
Angeles, California 90012.
