Group Too provides simple

solutions that maximize
the Technical
Communication
departments potential to
impact its students without
stressing the budget.

REMOVING CLUTTER
AND INCREASING
PRODUCTIVITY
Our Solutions to a Better Technical
Communication Department

The Technical Communication department at the University of North Texas is one of the fastest
growing departments at the University. You are one of the only Universities in the country to
have a stand-alone Technical Communication department. To compliment this, you need to also
offer the best learning environment for your growing population of students. Unfortunately, you
do not currently have the best atmosphere for learning. To attain one of the best Technical
Communication departments in the country, you must make changes to the classrooms.

ISSUES
There are many problems with the
current classroom, and they include:
1. the lack of open space / the
orientation of the classroom
2. the lack of knowledge about the
technology in the classroom
3. the vulnerability of students
works in the Scratch drive.
1. The lack of open space hurts students by making work difficult because it is hard to navigate
around the room. This is especially evident when there are more than a few people in a group as
it is hard for all members to contribute to the assignment. The fact that none of the tables or
chairs face the front of the room hurts the students by requiring them to constantly be moving
around. This makes it difficult to take in all the information presented in class.
2. The professors and teaching assistants lack of knowledge about the use of the SMART board
hurts them by requiring the presenter to be constantly moving through the cramped space
between the dry erase board and SMART board.
3. The works of students are also accessible to everyone which hurts the students by letting
anyone be able to access, edit, or remove other students works.

PROPOSED
SOLUTIONS
1. The best solution to do this would be
to face all the tables toward the east
side of the room. This would create
more space as there would not be an
intersection of different patterns of
the tables, which cuts down on open
space. This would allow every
student to see the material that is
being taught. This would also mean
that you could move the SMART
board to the east side of the
classroom to allow students to face
the board.
2. The classroom features a Sharp PNL702B SMART board, and one of the main features that this
board has is the ability to write on presentations just like it is a possible though if the professors
and teaching assistants gain the knowledge of how to use these features. One way to do this
would be to have an orientation to teach the professors and teaching assistants these features.
Then there could be a designated lab tutor during the academic year to help teachers if they
have any problems using the SMART board.

3. Fixing these problems by rearranging objects in the room means that the only other main
problem left to fix is the vulnerability of the Scratch drive. This would require a simple fix of
encoding each students folder with a passcode to make their work only accessible to
themselves. This would make each students work safe, which would be a major benefit to the
safety of students academic work.
