Lesson: Measuring Plants

Unit of Study: Plants
Goal of Lesson (Common Core State Standards/Division of Early Childhood where appropriate)
Students will practice measuring with Unifix cubes.
Common Core State Standards
K. CC 3 - Counting & Cardinality : Know number names and the count sequence.
Write numbers from 0 to 20. Represent a number of objects with a written numeral 0-20 (with 0 representing a count of no objects).
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.L.K.2.C
Write a letter or letters for most consonant and short-vowel sounds (phonemes).
Objectives:
Students will be able to use appropriate materials (unifix cubes) to measure the length of the stem and leaves of their plant in 30
minutes in 4 out of 5 trials.
Students will sound out words, identifying initial and end sound of numbers and colors with 80% accuracy.
Pre-Assessment:
Students will trace their shoe and measure with unifix cubes with a partner.
The student will write how many unifix cubes. The student will spell the numeral.
The student will compare with their partner and state which is more.
Post-Assessment:
The student will hand in their worksheet after the lesson. (see below)
