Beatrix Potter

Writer of some of the loveliest, most cherished childrens stories of all time, Beatrix Potter
began writing and drawing at an early age. Growing up with a fascination for the outdoors and a
large array of pets, she drew inspiration from her childhood. She began her career by writing picture
letters to children, which were essentially the first iterations of her stories. In 1902 her first book,
The Tale of Peter Rabbit, was published. It was an incredible success, it sold more than 40 million
copies worldwide. Today the story of Peter Rabbit is extremely well-known, and the mischievous
little bunny has worked his way into the hearts of many children where he remains an unforgettable
part of childhood. She went on to publish many more exceedingly successful stories including The
Tale of Squirrel Nutkin, the Tale of Tom Kitten and The Tale of Benjamin Bunny. The most
prominent characteristics of her books are the large vocabulary they employ and the beautiful
realistic illustrations. Her creative storylines and inspiring characters remain a model for all aspiring
writers and artists.
