TWS 6
Summary of Data: (Whole Class)
It is clear based on the data that the students gained a lot of knowledge during this
mini-unit based on the comparisons between the pre- and post-assessments. All but one
student improved their score (an explanation is provided about this particular student
below and in TWS 8), which leads me to believe that this mini-unit was successful. The
girls performed slightly higher than the boys on the assessments; however, the boys made
more improvements from their pre-assessment to the post-assessment.

Individuals:
A. It is important to analyze data between students who perform well, about average, and
below average because teachers must know this information in order to help them
become better students and be more successful. Analyzing the data between these
students also allows the teacher to plan for future lessons according to these students. It
is also important to analyze data between boys and girls to determine their strengths and
weaknesses.
B. Analysis of Three Students:
Quantitative/ Qualitative Data
o Most Successful: The student who was most successful scored a 30% (3/10) on
the pre-assessment. He scored a 90% on the post-assessment increasing his score
60 points. The one question that he missed on the post-assessment, he had also
missed on the pre-assessment. Based on a conversation I had with him about his
results on the assessments, he was confused due to the formatting of the question.
He participated when he was called on during the lessons, but seemed shy about
his answers and speaking out. He seems to not have much interest in learning.
o Least Successful: The student who was least successful scored a 90% on his preassessment and an 80% on his post assessment. He dropped his score 10 points
from pre to post. This student was engaged in all the lessons. He is often quite
outspoken. He simply made careless mistakes both times he was assessed;
otherwise, he would have scored 100% on both. He is always eager to learn.
o Average: The student who performed about average scored a 50% on the preassessment and an 80% on the post assessment. She increased her score by 30
points. She would have received a 100% if she had not made careless mistakes on
the post-assessment. She missed a problem the second time she took the test
when she got it correct on the first test. She is often shy in class, but asks
questions when she knows she needs help. She seems to only be interested in
learning some things.
