Exoskeletons?
An Apparatus designed for easier
or unhuman accomplished tasks
Solid exteriors that protect our
bodies
Anthropomorphic designs
Has been innovated since 1965 (Man
Amplifier, Neil Mizen)

HULC (LockHeed)

Human Universal Load Carrier.

Has been in development since 2000 at Berkeley

Robotics and Human Engineering Laboratory, EKSO
Bionics by Professor H. Kazerooni.
License agreement with LockHeed Martin (Defense
contractor)
Anthropomorphic exoskeleton, high strength
augmentation and is known for its unmatchable
endurance capabilities.

Capable of carrying 200lb objects with ease,

practically no metabolic expenditure. 15% decrease
in O2 consumption with 81lbs.

How Does it Work?

Battery powered

Microprocessor records the readings

from the force and motion sensors on
the exoskeleton

Using the data it produces the users

desired movements.

Titanium skeleton

Provides assistance at hip and knee

New research pursues fuel cell

batteries for longer duration.

EKSO (eLEGS)
Exoskeleton focused more on lower extremities
Designed to aid paraplegics in rehabilitation,
Walking
EKSO weighs 45lbs and allows a speed of 2mph
Battery life six hours

Private cost roughly $100,000
