Introduction
- Review what the students know about the rock cycle
from last class
- Ask them about the different types of rocks, how they
are formed, and how they are connected.
- Rock Cycle video
- Explain how the rock cycle is continuous and that rocks
are everywhere

Now that we know how rocks cycle through the


environment lets think about common uses for rocks
and minerals
Body
Hand out sheets for students to list the items
Go through each slide once the first image comes up
have the students vote yes or no with their green or red
cards
Then switch to the slide that indicates if the item
contains rocks & minerals or not
Then switch to the slide that uses the image and word to
indicate that the item contains rocks and minerals
Go through all of the slides

Time

15 min

- Are the students engaged? Are they writing the items

Give the students 5 minutes to think about other things


in their house or school that contain rocks and minerals

Then bring the class back together and tell the students
that you will be using popsicle sticks to call on students
to add to the list
Write the items on the powerpoint slide
