Function of the starting air distribution valve


a) On starting the engine, the cap valve(A) and the body(^)
are.filled with air and pressurized by the air coming from
the check valve(C), which as shown in the attached drowing,
controls the timing of the starting to "air run" the engine.
b) When the engines starts operation after completing the
air-running , the starting air distribution valve and the
body are set free and n o contact is made.

When the moving surface of the strting air distribution

valve is worn excessively, due to seizure or other causes,


the starting air can n o longer be distributed and air running
of the engine becomes impossible.

2. Projected cause of the trouble

a).The starting air supplied from the air tank may contian
foreign substances( water, 2ust., etc.). These can contribute

t o the excessive wear of the valve's sliding surface.


Check thzt there is n o dust in the pipe-line. Also drain
the air tank completely.
b) The air or combustion gas leaked from the starting valve or
the check valve mzy act on the starting air distxibution
valve, causing the sliding sur2ace to stzy in continuous

after long hours oZ operation. Check the starting valve and
the check valve.
C ) The.starting air distribution valve is lubricated by lube

oil overflowing from the No. 7 cam shzft bearing.


Check that sufficient lube oil is supplied.
