HIGHER EDUCATION PROGRAM

Online M.Ed. Curriculum Guide

This program of study is completed in HI ED 490 and updated each semester, in consultation with the students advisor.
While four courses are required for the M.Ed., students have the option of choosing an area of emphasis (e.g.,
Administration/Leadership, Student Engagement or Institutional Research, as indicated below), or designing their
program of study to match their intended career path. Note that if students do not have work experience in Higher
Education, an internship is highly recommended (HI ED 595). In addition to developing a program of study with
coursework required for the M.Ed degree, students should also develop a co-curricular plan.

Received permission to take

when I was a nondegree
student

Co-Curricular Planning:
I plan to join the following professional associations:
I am currently a member of PACAC
I plan to join NASPA, ACE, and ACPA
I plan to attend the following professional conferences (indicate the approximate date of the conference):
Penn State Enrollment Services Spring Conference May 2015
Annual PACAC Conference June 21 to June 23, 2015
PACAC Summer Institute July 13 to July 15, 2015
Penn State Enrollment Services Fall Conference September 2015

I plan to join and be active in HESA:

As of right now I dont plan to join or be active in HESA. I currently have a hard enough time balancing my work
meetings, let alone club meetings. I do get their emails so that I can at least stay up to date on workshops and
presentations they are hosting. I also have friends in the program on campus who are also a part of HESA, so
maybe one day Ill attend a meeting with them.
I plan to establish a relationship with a Higher Education Mentor:
I have a mentor who is a current student in the Student Engagement track on campus and she was also my
previous supervisor while I was a student working in her office. Sherry Rice is one of the reasons why I am
pursuing this degree and why I have a job in the field. She answers every frantic question I throw her way and is an
excellent resource for finding opportunities for more experience in the Higher Education field.
I plan to secure the following skill badges:
I have earned the following badges during HI ED 597C and they can all be seen on my e-Portfolio.
o Digital Badges Badgemaker
o Digital Badges
o Disruptive Innovation
o Flipped Classroom
o Understanding MOOCs
