KCMS Makes Outstanding Academic Growth!

by Elisa M.

district. The CORE district has

2 million students. Every department has teacher leaders who
meet once a month, so they are
the ones to decide what KC will
do with the $25,000 check.

On Monday, November 3rd,

KCMS had a grand event that went
on in the library. It was about all
the different schools that have
qualified for this specific reward
and have been making academic
growth.
We were one of the top ten
schools in the CORE districts that
made this much academic growth.
There were 110 schools in Fresno,
but only 10 schools in the CORE

Superintendent Mike Hanson, Channel 30, Misty Her (the

superintendent of schools), and
the curriculum representative Rosario
Sanchez came to
KCMS to present us
with the reward.
Several KC teachers were there, Mrs.
Navarro (our current
principal), Mr. Mello
(our pervious principal), and our leadership and journalism
classes were all there

Two beautiful, young, inspirational girls named Lauren

Parsekian and Molly Thompson
came to KCMS on October
24th to help support the fight
against female bullying. They
met in college at Pepperdine
University and set out on a trip
across the country to interview
women and girls about their
experiences with bullying. After
their journey, they made a documentary to share with all girls
who have struggled with bullying.
Both Lauren and Molly
experienced bullying when they

were younger. Luckily they had

each other for support. As they
both shared their stories, they
mentioned how they got betrayed
by their own friends at times.
At the end of the presentation, all KCMs students received
three colorful papers (pink, blue,
and yellow). Each card had a writing prompt focused on kind words
for individuals they knew. After
writing their response, students
were able to share their cards on
stage, The experience was extremely inspiring to all who attended. We are so thankful they
could make it to KCMS!

to share in this great accomplishment.

We are very honored to get
this reward. Thanks to all the
great students and staff at
KCMS. We should be proud of
all of our hard work and great
accomplishments!

Leading by Example:
Our KC Leadership Class
by Desiree R. And Alyssa F.
One of the fun electives
at KCMS is leadership.
Leadership is where students get together to organize events around campus,
like the rallies, and get to
help the staff.
Jordyn Moreno says, leadership is devoted to grizzly
spirit. The definition of
leadership is the quality
displayed by a leader. That
is what KCMS stands for.

They get to participate in

many of the exciting events
on campus like when we
were awarded the $25,000
for our great accomplish-

ments at
KC.
Its exciting to
know that
we have
students
on campus who
take pride in our school and
want to extend that pride
to others on campus,

Thank you to Mr. Juarez for

doing such a great job with
Leadership this year!

Solar Eclipse Seen from KC! by Brandon C.

On Thursday, October 23rd,
Mr. Wulf announced on the loudspeaker for any students or staff
still on campus after school to run
over to room 25 to view the solar
eclipse from our solar telescope.
It was amazing how many students
and adults came running from every direction to see it!
The next solar eclipse wont
happen until 2017. It was a partial
solar eclipse where the moon partially obstructed the sun. If it were

a total solar eclipse, it wouldve

been completely dark. Total eclipses dont happen that often in any
particular location. The next total
solar eclipse from CA will be in the
year of 2045. If you want to see
one in Fresno, it will be May 3rd,
2106.
Mr. Siechert and Mr. Threlkeld
both provided information and a
way to see the eclipse for all the
kids.

AVID Field Trip !! by Tina Y.

Last week, the AVID class
went to UC Merced. The students
were allowed to ask what they
wished to know about the school
and learn about the campus. UC
Merced offers students many major options but is mostly focused
on Science.
The students were able to
spend the entire day on campus,
and even got to eat in the dining
hall or in the quad! While the students were on campus, they got to
see college students who were

waiting to go to their class,

studying between classes, and
basically doing everything college students do.
The tour guides were seniors from UC Merced and led
them around campus, showing
them all the highlights. It was a
great experience for the students at KC who want to know
what its like to attend college.
Thank you to Mrs. Ogden for
organizing this experience!

Your Best Thanksgiving!

By Sophia M. and Rhiana R.

Thanksgiving is here, so our minds have turned

To what time has taught us, to what weve learned:
We often focus all our thoughts
On shiny things weve shopped and bought.

We take our pleasure in material things

Forgetting the pleasure friendship brings.

Homemeade-preschool.com

If a lot of our stuff just vanished today,

Wed see the foundation of each happy day
Is special relationships constant and true,
And thats when our thoughts go directly to you.
We wish you a Thanksgiving youll never forget,
Full of love and joy - your best one yet!

E for Mrs. Ellis

- Joanna Fuchs

by Betsua A.

Do you know Mrs. Kruse?

She teaches ELA and Drama
here at KCMS. She has two
sons, Braedyn who is 10 and
Brody who is 6.

Do you know Mrs. Ellis?

Mrs. Ellis began teaching at
KCMs so she could make a
difference for kids and try
to help kids stop bullying
each other. Her family inspired her to become a
teacher.

Mrs. Kruse's first job was

babysitting, at age 13. She
babysat about five children
every weekend for five dollars
an hour, but she thought she
really should have been paid
more for everything she did!

two wonderful teenagers, a boy

and a girl.

Mrs. Ellis favorite hobbies

are reading, traveling, and also
playing with her dogs. She has
two dogs, and she even wants
a reptile someday. Mrs. Ellis
favorite sports are cheerleading and gymnastics. Mrs. Ellis
favorite subject is English,
because she gets to read and
write. She is married and has

Getting to Know Mrs. Kruse

Mrs. Ellis favorite foods are

steak and corn on the cob. She
loves it here at KCMS, because
she thinks the staff and students
are amazing!!!! Mrs. Ellis is a
great teacher, a nice person,
and even helped to start the
club Girls Who Code here at KC
this year. She teaches English in
room 43, so stop on by and say
hello!!!!

Her dream was to be a

nurse or a teacher. During
high school she realized that
she couldn't become a nurse,
because she couldn't handle
the sight of blood. She decided to teach, because of
Mrs.Seibert, her 3rd grade
teacher and Mr. Olson, her
8th grade teacher.
Mrs. Kruse teaches ELA,
because it is her passion. She
likes to read, write, and see
kids ending up to enjoying
texts they never expected to
enjoy. Mrs.Kruse loves to
teach because everyday is
new and interesting to her.

by Sheila V.

One funny memory of hers is

during her third year of teaching,
she tripped over the breakfast
cart and fell in front of her class
on the first day of school! Luckily,
her class was very nice and they
didn't laugh.
During her free time, she
watches her son's football practices and games. She doesn't have a
lot of free time, but when she
does she likes to craft, read, and
even spend time with her family
and friends. Her favorite animals
are bears. She had a huge bear
collection when she was a kid.
These were just a few fun facts

the most successful colleges in California, UC Davis.
The JDA team often visit colleges
