Why obtain a BSN?

Background of Problem
There is a increased need for BSN prepared
RNs related to changes in healthcare needs and
increased demand for a nurse to have more
complex knowledge and skills.

Supporting Information
There has been an increase in RN to
BSN programs including on-line
learning. There is tuition
reimbursement to supplement the
cost. A BSN degree increases the
possibility of changing jobs and
advancing in the profession.

Statistics
There is an increase in the number of Associate
prepared nurses returning to school for their
BSNs. In a survey by the American Association
of Colleges of Nursing, 55% of RNs obtained a
BSN degree by the year 2013. This was an
increase from 35% in 2008.
Goals and Objectives
A Bachelors of Nursing degree provides an
opportunity for advancement in your
profession. It is a step towards a Masters of
Nursing degree or to becoming a Nurse
Practitioner. A nurse can attend school parttime or full-time, and there is flexibility in
scheduling. Goals of obtaining a BSN include
personal growth, desire to change jobs, growth
in professional career, and increased salary.

Conclusion
There are many possibilities for making career
changes in the profession of Nursing. Some of
these possibilities might include Leadership
roles, Nurse Consultant, Legal Nursing,
Pharmaceutical Industry (Marketing/Education)
and Teaching.
So, what are you waiting forjust choose a
traditional classroom
or a on-line Nursing
program.

The sooner you start, the sooner you will have a


BSN degree. The opportunities are endless.
