Word Study

Read Today I Feel Silly

Students will identify Rhyming words/Rounding up the Rhymes

Students will play Rhyming Bingo in leveled small groups

Tuesday

Introduce Feelings/Moods vocabulary and prompting questions

Guided Reading

Students will identify pictures throughout the book to prompt usage of


target vocabulary

Students will use turn & talk to start practicing sharing of


moods/feelings

Wednesday

Introduce Feelings/Moods vocabulary and prompting questions

Writing Workshop

Read Emotions and Feelings: How Do You Feel Today?

Students will work in small groups on writing worksheet (sentence


practice Today I feel etc.)

Thursday

Advanced readers will practice independent reading on their level

Readers Workshop

Students on/below level will practice reading in small groups

Students will practice reading their paragraphs from previous writing


workshops with peers in pairs

Students will use Art class to create their own representation of Yurtle
the Turtle showcasing the mood/feeling in which their part of the book
emphasizes (eg. If Yurtle is beginning her journey students may be
directed to show a happy turtle in their puppet/picture/representation)

Students will practice and perform their previously workshopped Yurtle


the Turtle script pages

Monday

Introduce Feelings/Moods vocabulary and prompting questions

Word Study

Read Yurtle the Turtle by Dr. Seuss

Students will identify Rhyming words/Rounding up the


Rhymes

Students will work on added sight words from previous week (eg.
Can, the, like)

Tuesday

Introduce Feelings/Moods vocabulary and prompting questions

Guided Reading

Review Yurtle the Turtle using a picture walk through the book

Students will identify pictures throughout the book to prompt


usage of target vocabulary

Students will use turn & talk to discuss how Yurtle is feeling at
various points of the story

Wednesday

Introduce Feelings/Moods vocabulary and prompting questions

Writing Workshop

Using Yurtle the Turtle Students will work in small leveled


groups working on writing a composition of 3 sentences (or more
depending on the group) describing how Yurtle feels based on
certain plot points of the book

Thursday

Advanced readers will practice independent reading on their level

Readers Workshop

Students on/below level will practice reading in small groups

Using Yurtle the Turtle Students will practice reading their


assigned Readers Theater script pages and parts (no more than 3
pages from the story per group) out loud with characterized
acting style (if time permits)

Friday

Content Area: Social


Studies

Students will be read, Martins Big Words, by Doreen


Rappaport, a developmentally appropriate biographical picture
book about Martin Luther King Jr.

Students will be asked to recall factual information regarding


MLK Jr. with embedded target vocabulary from Emotions &
Feelings unit of study
