RnR History - Day 9 - Hard Rock/Smoke on the Water

Content and Achievement Standards

Class Goals and Objectives


1.

The goal of this lesson is to provide the students with a general understanding of hard rock music.
This will be accomplished by listening to, discussing, and playing hard rock music.

Materials
Songs: Killer Queen, Smoke on the Water
Hard rock P.2 Powerpoint
Steady pulse track

Procedures
Students will acknowledge the class objectives for the day and ask questions if they
need some clarification from the teacher.

Teacher will play God Only Knows music video, asking the students to identify
artists weve studied over the past 2 weeks.
3.
Students will answer review questions from the hard rock slideshow.
4.
Students will participate in a listening activity designed to have students compare and
contrast two rock songs with the purpose of identifying distinguishing characteristics of each. This
information will be used in the future to complete a hard rock frayer model.
5.
Students will watch a short video that explains what a distortion pedal is and how it
works.
6.
Students will learn Smoke on water by rote as lead by the instructor of the class

Assessment of Goals and Objectives


Assessment will be achieved through the written responses to the listening lesson found in
procedure #4.
Assessment will also be achieved informally by careful observation of students as they play Smoke
on the Water as a large ensemble.
