donation to our clothes closet. We need
boys and girl clothes, shoes, socks,
undergarments and coats appropriate for 4
-5 year olds. Any items would be greatly
appreciated. If you have any borrowed
items that belong to Givens please
return so other students may use
them. Givens Clothes closet is used
by students in case of accidents or
spills. If you have any questions please
contact the nurse Carol Johnson at 903737-7466.

What sounds
should our kids be
able to make right
now?
This is a question we as speech therapists are
often asked. According to the Clinical Assessment of Articulation and Phonology the
following articulation development should
occur.
2 yr. /p,d,m,n,w,h/, 3 yr. /b,t,k,g/ and 4
yr. /n,g,y,f/
Of course none of this is set in stone and it
can differ depending on each childs circumstances. If you have questions or concerns
you can contact the speech therapists at
T.G. Givens Early Childhood Center.

Spring is in the air and everyone is enjoying

outdoor activities. Baseball and Soccer games are
beginning, but remember to keep reading to your
child.
Some tips for book sharing from the Association
for Library Service to Children are:
Set aside a special time each day, such as nap
time, bedtime, or after meals.
Share books when you and your child are both in
a relaxed mood.
Take advantage of waiting times to share
bookson trips, at the doctors office, in
line at the grocery store.
Reading even 5 or 10 minutes a day
to young children helps them
get ready to read on their own.

T. G. Givens classes celebrated

the Texas Public School Week with a lot of
fun and energy. Everyone showed out on
the stage in the cafeteria performing a Texas
Line Dance after weeks of practice in the
gym. During warm-ups we learned how to
focus on the dance steps, sequences of
movements and how to stay within each
ones personal space. Learning how to gallop
on stick horses is another fun rhythmic
movement where one foot leads and the
other is brought rapidly together. Our Science classes have been focused on "things
that could grow on a FARM." We have painted with real vegetables and learned that
some things we eat grow on top of the dirt
while others grow in the dirt. We will be
seeing farm animals on our field trip to the
livestock show as well as keeping baby chicks
and baby ducks in our classroom! This is a
really FUN time of the year for learning!
