THEORY

The Bernoulli equation applies to steady , incompressible flow along a streamline

with no heat or work interaction . One form of the Bernoulli equation is

Where , w = g

Symbol p is the pressure , is the density , v is the fluid velocity , w is the specific
weight of the fluid and z is the elevation measured from an arbitrary datum . The
subscripts 1 and 2 denote two positions along the streamline . The total or
stagnation pressure , H is a measure of total energy of the flowing stream . When the
Bernoulli equation is applied , the stagnation pressure is constant along a streamline.

5.0 PROCEDURES

5.1

By using the Bernoullis apparatus as shown in Figure 1 , the experiment is

done

5.2

The equipment is make sure at horizontal state

5.3

The inlet and outlet valves are make sure closed , the small tank valve is
opened before the pump is started .

5.4

The outlet valve is opened fully and then the inlet valve is then slowly opened
so that the water is totally filling in the tube and the pipe .

5.5

The inlet valve and the outlet valve is slowly adjusted to get the appropriate
water level in the piezometer tubes .

5.6

The water level depth in the piezometer tube 1 to piezometer tube 7 are
recorded .

5.7

The small tank valve is closed . The time taken for every 5 liter increment in
the water level at the discharge measurement is measured . 3 measurements
are taken.

5.8

The small tank valve is fully opened .

5.9

Procedure 5.5 to 5.8 is repeated . The experiment is resumed with a lower

water level in the piezometer tubes .

5.10

The inlet and outlet valves is closed . The pump is switched off and the water
from the equipment is drained out .
