Frank Stronach

Vs.
Bertha Wilson

Comparing Great Canadians

Mr. Frank Stronach

This Power Point presentation
will prove that Frank
Stronach was the greater
Canadian by the following
three points. He became in
full control of a huge
company after merging his
company with Magna
Electronic Corp. in 1969, he
was a multimillionaire by
1984, and he came to the
country a poor immigrant
and through the hard work
and good timing he built his
own successful business.
What makes Stronach
different is the degree of his
success.

Mrs. Bertha Wilson

This Power Point presentation
will prove that Bertha Wilson
was the greater Canadian by
the following three points.
Bertha persevered even
though she was told there
was no room for her, she was
the only female lawyer in the
firm, and she was the first
woman to be appointed to
Supreme Court.

First Point
In 1969 Stronach merged
his company with Magna
Electronics Corp. a
supplier of smallish
defense. A year later he
was in full control of the
new company Magna
International Ltd.

Bertha was told by the dean

of the Dalhousie University
law school that they have
no room for her dilettantes
and that she should take up
crocheting. Bertha ignored
the advice from the dean
and years later was
regarded as one of Canadas
most distinguished jurists.
And also she carved out a
place for other Canadian
women in the male
professions, she demands a
prominent place on this list.

Second Point
In the 1970s Magnas size
exploded. By 1984 it
operated 43 mostly
Canadian plants and it
sold nearly $500 million
worth in automotive
parts. Stronach was a
multimillionaire because
Magna was the major
player in the at sometimes
fragile automotive sector
of Canada.

Wilson stepped into the

spotlight and out of the
shadows in 1975 when
she was appointed to the
Ontario Court of Appeal.
Being the first woman to
scale such judicial heights
in thee province, she had
not only to be brave but
to also be good like most
women entering the
previously all-male
preserve.

Third Point
Stronachs story is a kind of
Canadian success that has
been thousands of times
repeated. Stronach a poor
immigrant, came into this
country, going off of hard
work, good timing, was
able to build his own
successful business. What
makes his story different is
the degree of his success.

Bertha was noticed and

she was a choice of nature
as the first woman
appointed to the Supreme
Court of Canada in March
1982. She proved by just
her presence alone that
justice would never be the
same in Canada but she
had found her voice on
the top court along with
being much more than a
token.

Closing
Stronach was proven to
be the greater Canadian
by these three facts, he
became fully in control of
a huge company in a
year in the 1969, he
became a
multimillionaire by 1984,
and he was a immigrant
who, through hard work
and good timing built his
own business.

Bertha Wilson was proven

to be the greater Canadian
by these three facts, she
was told she couldnt or
shouldnt go through with
law school, she continued
with law school anyways
and was appointed to the
Ontario Court Of Appeal,
and she changed the face
of justice by being the first
woman apart of the law
and being appointed to the
Supreme Court of Canada.

Conclusion
In my opinion Bertha Wilson was the greater
Canadian. She was the first woman to become
high up in the court and in the law. She showed
women that they can be apart of the all-male
professions, and she joined the majority in
striking down Canadas abortion law, by
making an overly feminist argument, she also
established a key precedent.
