Vs.
Bertha Wilson
First Point
In 1969 Stronach merged
his company with Magna
Electronics Corp. a
supplier of smallish
defense. A year later he
was in full control of the
new company Magna
International Ltd.
Second Point
In the 1970s Magnas size
exploded. By 1984 it
operated 43 mostly
Canadian plants and it
sold nearly $500 million
worth in automotive
parts. Stronach was a
multimillionaire because
Magna was the major
player in the at sometimes
fragile automotive sector
of Canada.
Third Point
Stronachs story is a kind of
Canadian success that has
been thousands of times
repeated. Stronach a poor
immigrant, came into this
country, going off of hard
work, good timing, was
able to build his own
successful business. What
makes his story different is
the degree of his success.
Closing
Stronach was proven to
be the greater Canadian
by these three facts, he
became fully in control of
a huge company in a
year in the 1969, he
became a
multimillionaire by 1984,
and he was a immigrant
who, through hard work
and good timing built his
own business.
Conclusion
In my opinion Bertha Wilson was the greater
Canadian. She was the first woman to become
high up in the court and in the law. She showed
women that they can be apart of the all-male
professions, and she joined the majority in
striking down Canadas abortion law, by
making an overly feminist argument, she also
established a key precedent.
