-Students will analyze the Great Depression and
the economic conditions around the world using
educational technologies.
Digital Images Project: Glogster
Lesson 1 StandardsSS.6-8.L.2: Determine the central ideas or
information of a primary or secondary source;
provide an accurate summary of the source
distinct from prior knowledge or opinions.
SS.6-8.L.18: Draw evidence from informational
texts to support analysis, reflection, and research.
SS.6.H.CL2.1: Identify the economic conditions
around the world that existed following World
War I.
ObjectivesStudents will analyze primary sources in groups
to determine significant main ideas from that
time period.
Students will compare and contrast the different
social classes that existed in the1920s and
throughout the Great Depression while creating a
Glogster Poster.

Summary of activities/procedures

Students will be assigned into five Social Classes

that will be given a scenario of their social class
and two primary sources that they will have to
read. Students will have to analyze both the
scenario and primary sources and complete the
graphic organizer. A discussion will be held after
the graphic organizer is complete with the entire
class. Students will compare and contrast their

social groups to other groups through guided

questioning and class interests. Once discussion is
complete, students will begin to create a Glogster
Poster based upon the social class they were
assigned to. They must include digital images and
complete sentences that draw attention to the
poster. They must have color and be creative. I
provided a model for students to view.
The technology used in this lesson was the
Glogster website. The idea is for students to
create a Glogster Poster of their assigned social
class from their readings and graphic organizers.
This is an introduction into the Unit so students
can understand that different social classes
existed at this time and that all of them struggled
to keep afloat.
1) Critical Thinking and Problem Solving 2)
Communication 3) Information Literacy 4) Social
and Cross-Cultural Skills
1) Students will be evaluated by walking
around to groups and asking guided
questions for a response of higher-order
thinking from students.
2) Students will be graded on their
graphic organizers and the correct
information written on them. Students
will be asked to correct information if
wrong, for better understanding for the
rest of the Unit.
3) Students will present their Glogster to
the class and their grade will be based off
of a rubric that they must complete to the
best of their ability.
These assessments are used because as a
whole, teacher and students must check
for understanding and encourage
metacognition, and demonstrate
understanding and skill.

Lesson 2 StandardsSS.6.H.CL2.1: Identify the economic conditions
around the world that existed following World
War I.
SS.6.H.CL2.2: Examine and categorize causes of
the Great Depression worldwide.
ObjectivesStudents will determine family budget needs
throughout the Great Depression.

Students will compare and contrast the different

costs of items that existed throughout the Great
Depression.

Describe the assessment used in this lesson.

Students will analyze what exactly the Great

Depression was and how families survived on
low income. Students will determine the social
wants and needs through a monthly budget on an
interactive SmartBoard. Students will split into
pairs or groups and decide on what items their
social class family will need to survive on such a
low salary. Once decided, as a class, groups will
take turns coming up to the board and writing the
price for that item, how much of the item they
want, and finding a picture of that item from the
glossary or drawing that item. This will create a
class debate because all groups will differ on
what items they want. The class as a whole will
have to compromise on the final product.
Students for homework will then ask parents or
grandparents about the recent recession and if
they personally struggled in their own way and
how it differs from the Great Depression.
The technology used in this lesson was the
interactive SmartBoard. This lesson is designed
for students to become active while learning. This
lesson incorporates math, writing, drawing and
much more to create student learning while being
active. Students will become comfortable using a
SmartBoard and will get practice using it, for
sometimes it can be confusing. Students will
practice writing, drawing, and searching for
glossary items.
1) Critical Thinking and Problem Solving 2)
Communication 3) Collaboration 4) ICT Literacy
Students will be assessed by questioning
students on Wants and Needs amongst a
society. Can they tell the difference
between them or do they think they are
all needs?
Assessment will be done when students
collaborate on items they want and how
they come up with the list that they
created.
Students will be assessed on how much
of a budget did they use and did they use
it in the mindset of people during the
Great Depression?

Students will return home that night and

ask parents or grandparents on how they
were personally affected during the
recent economic recession. How do their

and what makes it different?
Web 2.0 Project: Educational Website
Lesson 3 StandardsSS.6.C.2: Compare and contrast different forms of
government worldwide and their influences on
historic world events:
The Great Depression
World War I
World War II
9/11
SS.6.E.6: Assess the economic impact of
technology on world regions throughout history.
SS.6.H.CL2.1: Identify the economic conditions
around the world that existed following World
War I
ObjectivesStudents will analyze countries around the world
and compare and contrast the difference between
two countries economically, and historically.
Students will analyze what they found amongst
the countries and compare it to the harsh times of
the Great Depression.

Summary of activities/procedures

Brief explanation of technology used in this lesson

Students will be using their prior knowledge on

the Great Depression and what they have already
learned on the last two lessons to complete this
assignment. Students will pair up with a peer and
research an educational website that compares
and contrasts countries throughout the world.
Students will compare and contrast countries of
their choice to the United States. Students will
complete a graphic organizer that includes the
details of that countries economy to the United
States. Once the graphic organizer is complete,
students will then take their knowledge just
learned and compare the economy of these
countries to the United States during the Great
Depression. They will examine the differences
and similarities to what is happening to other
countries now to the Untied States during the
Great Depression.
The technology used in this lesson was found
from Cool Tools For Schools. The website that
was used for research with the students was
www.Ifitweremyhome.com. This website
compared and contrasted economies of different
countries together. This site is something I will

use in my future classrooms. You can do so much

with it.
1) ICT Literacy 2) Flexibility and Adaptability

The teacher will ask students about the

safety of the Internet and how this
website will be used with the best student
behavior. Checking for student
understanding.
The students will be completing a graphic
organizer on their selected countries and
their similarities and differences. This
will be collected and graded.
Students will hold a discussion that will
include every pair on how their
information relates to others and how it
relates to the Great Depression.
Student completion and knowledge of the
graphic organizer and class discussion
will be assessed.
Blog Project: EduBlogs
Lesson 4 Standards-

SS.6.H.CL2.1: Identify the economic conditions

around the world that existed following World
War I.
SS.6.H.CL2.3: Analyze the political response to
the economic and social conditions of the Great
Depression in the United States.
SS.6-8.L.8: Distinguish among fact, opinion, and
reasoned judgment in a text.
SS.6-8.L.11: Write arguments focused on
discipline-specific content.
- Introduce claims about a topic or
issue, acknowledge and
distinguish the claims from
alternate or opposing claims and
organize the reasons and
evidence logically.
Objectives-

Students will evaluate what they have learned

throughout the Great Depression Unit and create
five responses to a class Blog.
Students will create responses based off of their
knowledge of the material and create questions to
post on their peers responses. This should create
a class debate through Blog posts.

Describe the assessment used in this lesson.

As the final lesson of the Unit, students will

produce five creative responses on the Great
Depression. Students will be directed on how to
produce their responses and the responses will be
checked for accuracy. Once responses are
checked, students will begin to post to an
educational class blog their five responses. Once
they are posted to the blog, students will have to
reply to five of their peers blog responses. This
will create critical thinking amongst the students
and hopefully stir a debate between responses.
Students are encouraged to respond to more than
the requirement. The next day in class will be a
class discussion on student blog posts and more
room for debate.
The technology used in this lesson was a created
class blog: https://Tdaile02.edublogs.org. This
site was produced for students to create their
Great Depression Responses and reply to peers.
This blog can also be used as a way for myself to
post past, present, and future lessons and create
an actual class blog amongst my future
classroom. Students are to post responses and
replies onto this blog and it is completely private
and only our class can see information posted.
1) Productivity and Accountability 2) Initiative
and Self Direction
Students will be assessed before
instruction by having a discussion on
what exactly the Blog is used for and the
instruction on how to use a Blog correctly
and for educational use.
Students will be asked to create responses
for the Blog on the Great Depression.
This will encourage self-direction and
collaboration as well as encourage
metacognition for students.

Assessment after instruction will be

reached by student responses to the Blog.
Students will have their responses
checked by me before students are able to
post on the blog and with peer replies,
assessment will take place. Student
Writing structure will play a major role in
the assignment.
