Schrum, L., Galizio, L. M., & Ledesma, P. (2011). Educational Leadership and Technology Integration: An Investigation into Preparation, Experiences, and Roles. Journal Of School Leadership, 21(2), 241-261. INTRODUCTION Research Questions (if research questions are not specifically mentioned, what is the theoretical background or overarching theme): What are the specific state requirements regarding leadership licensure preparation in each of the 50 U.S. states, with respect to technology coursework? What is the current status of "technology integration courses" in leadership licensure preparation programs in major institutions in the 50 U.S. states? What do current technology-savvy administrators report about their preparation, experience, and practice in supporting, assisting, and promoting use of technology for integration into curricular activities? Purpose of the research: The purpose of this research was to investigate the current status of administrator preparation to understand how individuals may or may not learn to provide the leadership necessary for facilitating teachers' use of technology in creating student curricular engagement and achievement and improving the school conditions necessary for teachers' integration. METHODOLOGY What is the methodology for the research or approach used to understand the issue? Provide information regarding the following:
Participants: School principals, assistant principals, and other administrators.
Procedures: Online surveys have been emailed and the responses have been collected. Some responses are collected via phone call. Data Collection Methods/Data Source: Survey Monkey used for online survey.
State requirements for technology implementation have been looked at.
Data Analysis: Researchers compared administrators current skills and experiences with states technology requirements. RESULTS Findings or Results (or main points of the article): The result shows that even though there were many state requirements for technology implementation there have not been many opportunities for administrators to get trained. Administrators ended up training themselves on their own in order for them to be technology savvy. DISCUSSIONS Conclusions/Implications (for your profession): I think technology implementation is very significant for school leaders to improve success of their school. If principals are already tech-savvy leaders, teachers are being more tended to use technology for their teaching. REFLECTIONS Students Reflections (changes to your understanding; implications for your school/work): These researches show us how school leaders thoughts effect implementation of technology in education. When principals believe the needs of technology in their schools, teachers and other administrators will be more motivated to implement technology into curricular activities. Tech-savvy administrators schools teachers and students usually having more chance to learn more about technology applications. If principals believe that using and teaching technology is important as teaching students other core subjects, I believe that students will be able to learn all other subjects with many supportive tech tools. Moreover, in terms of 21th century learning objectives, students are expected to be aware of digital citizenship. In other words, students should use technology properly to reach information and use tech tools to implement them into their learnings. Therefore, school principals should be ready to support teachers for technology implementation to improve students academic success.
