Definition Of Baseball
Baseball, a ball game played between two teams of nine
on the field with a diamond shaped circuit of four bases.

Popularity of the sport over the years

Second Family
This sport makes you and your teammates feel like family
from day one even if you dont know them.

My private team when the season is going on we do

practically anything and everything together.
Through the fall season at DC I got to make some super
great friends.
My best memory with this sport was my second to last
tournament for the Phoenix. We got to go to Steamboat
and that was the best five days of my life this summer.

History Of The Sport

1839, Abner Doubleday is credited with inventing
baseball in Cooperstown, New York.
1845, Alexander Joy Cartwright develops the rules
of baseball.
1846, The first official game of baseball is played
between the Knickerbockers and a group of cricket
players.
1866, The first women's' baseball team is started
by a group from Vassar College.
1867, Candy Cummings throws the first curveball in
baseball.
1869, An all-professional team, the Cincinnati Red
Stockings, takes the field for the first time.

History Continued
1876, The National League is established, with William Hulbert
as president
1882, The American Baseball Association, also known as the
Beer and Whiskey League, is created.
1890, Cy Young takes the mound in the Major Leagues for the
first time
1907, Alta Weiss is the first woman to play professional
baseball.
1920, Babe Ruth is sold to the New York Yankees.
1923, The Negro National League is a huge success.
1945, Jackie Robinson makes his Major League debut.
This is where I will stop for the history but Jackie Robinson was very important
for baseball, breaking the color barrier, and being the only player to have a day
for him in the season and his number retired. His number is the only one retired
throughout the entire league.
