FRENCH 1 - 5TH GRADES MADAME MONN

Thank you to so many parents

Le Bonhomme de Neige in the Quebecois
that came out to support the
Carnaval celebration and subject of the secorchestra, band, chorus and
ond song in our French singing performance.
French singing program this
past Friday. The children really
French News
get excited and enjoy showing
off their musical talents and
A few updates about the French
French skills at this time of the
program. We are about to wrap
year. I am always impressed by
up our current themes. The stuthe enthusiasm the children
dents have taken pre-assessments
have for singing the French
and then taken the same assesssongs. It warms my heart..
ment about mid-theme and soon
will take the summative assessments. I have the students take
multiple choice assessments
online through a website called
Nearpod. The pre-assessment
scores will be posted on Infinite
Campus but they do not affect
students grade. This score is only
used to get a baseline, a starting
point score in order to measure

the increase in learning from

before the theme until the
end of the theme. Obviously
the pre-assessment score
should be very low as very
few of our students speak
French at home as their first
language. The point spread
between the pre-assessment
score and the summative
(end) assessment score is
the growth measure score
and I will be using this number as part of the students
grade as I believe that this is
a more valid way to grade
the students language
learningbased on how
much progress they have
made from knowing none
of the vocabulary, expressions and cultural practices
of French speaking countries to knowing much more
about each area of language / foreign language.

Resources

Over the past few weeks I have sent home the website address for a site named
Quizlet.com. On this site you can find activities for the students that I have created for them
to be able to practice the French covered in our classes. If you go to the site, Quizlet.com
and type in mmemonne, my activities created for the students will pop up. Please only have
your child use the activities for their grade level or any younger grade level. Please do not go
up in age / grade level. Aside from my own activities, you can look up any other subject in
French for your child. The best language learning activities do not use translation, but rely
on pictures and images and then have audio to reinforce the pronunciation of the terms.
Another application that can be used online that I have found to be good for covering some
basic themes, colors, numbers, body parts, clothing, family, school, foods is French games:
fun learning games for adults and children http://www.french-games.net. The good thing
about this site is that there is an audio component which has a good French accent. It is very
important to look for games with audio in order to override the students tendency to use
English phonetic rules to pronounce French words.

O est Madame Monn?
