Comparison to Cuidando los Chivos article
No quieres estudiar, vete a Mexico a cuidar los chivitos. The phrase Lizeth mentions on
pg.36 definitely relates to most Hispanic families. These families came to the United States for
one purpose and that was to help their families move forward in life. Hispanic parents have
worked hard when they were younger whether itd be working in the fields, selling elotes and
raspados, or maybe even cuidando a los chivitos. That is why they push their children to do
their best in school in order to obtain an education. Just like Lizeths parents reminded her that
she wouldnt want to be working how they were when they were younger, my mom reminds me
for the exact same reason as well. Having language problems like Lizeth was a difficult stage
because our first language was Spanish and it was really hard to comprehend English with no
help around at home since our parents only knew Spanish themselves. But that never stops from
parents helping their children succeed in school. Getting out of Lizeths paretns way, they found
someone who spoke, wrote, and read English so they would help her children. This showed
dedication. Although her parents threw at her jokes about what would happen if she quit her
studies, she knew all they wanted was for the best of her. Parents like these are great hard
working people that deserve to be proud of their hard working kids they raised.
