Elderly Malnutrition Proposal
My topic for my inquiry project is malnutrition in elderly people. Currently I know that
about 1 million of homebound elderly adults are malnourished; I also know that the
percentages malnourished elderly that live in long term care facilities and hospitals are pretty
high.
Out of all of the sources that I have read ranging from the topics of malnutrition, food
deserts, ethics of eating meat, etc., I think that I am guiding my topic towards the idea of the
malnutrition of elderly people and the reasoning behind it. I believe that this would be a great
choice of a topic just because in my opinion it is very significant and relevant. Everyone knows
that there are elderly people all over this world; however, this issue doesnt get a lot of shine
and spotlight because it is overlooked. This topic is something that everyone can relate to
because we all have or have had grandparents; I want to ensure that mine stay healthy and are
eating the proper amount of food.
The main source that gave me an idea for this topic is the one that I got off of the
UWRT 1102 moodle page that introduced the topic to me. It had information stating that
majority of the older people in the United States are malnourished. I am not biased with this

topic; however, I do take this topic seriously because I have grandparents that I love and
cherish very much.
I will explore the positives, negatives, causes, and solutions of this topic just so that I will
be able to give the reader a better understanding of whats really going on. I will search on
Google and try to find credible sources. If I am finding way too much information, I will just
narrow it down to the initial ideas that I was going for within the topic. If too little information
turns up then I will slightly open the topic to a broader view including other countries and
groups of people instead of just elderly. However, I do believe that I will strongly focus on the
elderly population located in the homebound, long-term care, and hospital communities.
