HVCH Welcomes New Physician
Hocking Valley Community Hospitals Interim CEO, Julie Stuck, welcomes new
physician, John W. Woltz. We are thrilled to have Dr. Woltz join the Hocking
Valley Medical Group, and become a part of our healthcare team, shared
Stuck.
Dr. Woltz is a general practice physician who will be opening a new office in
the Logan Physicians Building located at 751 St. Rt. 664 N on the lower level.
He is no stranger to Logan as this is where John was raised and attended high
school. His parents are Judie Henniger and the late Ron Woltz of Logan.
Dr. Woltz graduated from medical school at Ohio University in 2005, and retired
from the United States Air Force with rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
Even with over a 19 year military career in the United States Army and Air
Force, Dr. Woltzs heart has stayed close to Logan. He shared, Despite all my
travels and deployments, Logan has always felt like home. Dr. Woltz and his
wife, Linda, reside in Logan with their two children, Billy and Dana, who both
attend Logan High School. Linda is also an Army veteran and currently runs
her horse breeding farm.
When asked about his philosophy of medicine, Dr. Woltz shared an old saying,
An ounce of prevention is a worth a pound of cure. I believe preventative
medicine is the direction we need to go, and I want to be my patients partner
in staying or becoming healthy.

John Woltz, D.O., and Julie Stuck, Interim CEO, HVCH

! I am also looking forward to becoming more involved in our community and

with Hocking Valley Community Hospitals leadership team, physicians, and

employees, shared Woltz.

As wellness is a great interest of mine, I want to work with the hospitals wellness program, and look at the possibilities of
forming a community running club, continued Woltz.
To schedule an appointment with Dr.Woltz, contact him at 740 385 0202.

Same Staff & Servie You have
trusted for years!

Hi my name is Sheryl Schall I am a resident of
Logan and Ive lived here for over 20 years. Crocheting is
not only a hobby of mine but Ive started my own business
selling my crocheted product. My business name is Fine
Textiles. I started crocheting as a little girl, I always loved
visiting my grandmother and seeing the new doilies she
had made and wanted to be able to do the same quality of
work that she did.

As an adult I decided to follow through with that wish
and not only taught myself the correct way of making each
stitch but also how to read patterns and the abbreviations
used in those patterns. I love to teach crocheting and
have taught my daughter and a few family members how
to crochet. I have attended a few of the local festivals this
year and am getting to be known as the Crochet Lady.

I have been given the opportunity to teach
crocheting at the Hocking Hills Messenger. I would love
to be able to teach as many people as I can how to do
the same quality of work that I have achieved. In order to
do crochet especially with the thin cotton thread and small
hooks you need to have a great deal of patience and over
the years I have been able to acquire the patience needed
to do fine intricate work.

I have been crocheting for over 30 years now and
Im sure that I can not only teach crocheting but also the
fine intricate work for doilies, curtains, and table runners.
So please come see me at Hocking Hills Messenger I would
love to teach you all that I have learned over the years. To
setup an appointment, call the Hocking Hills Messenger at
740-380-3744.

Happy Artisans and

Farmers make Happy
Customers

Fair Trade is so very important.

Last issue: I covered

how shopping Fair Trade
= equals fair pay for the
artisan and farmer and
how it protects children.
Here are two more
reasons why shopping

Fair Trade strives to alleviate poverty and create

sustainable development by creating opportunities for
producers who have been economically disadvantaged
or marginalized by the conventional trading systems.
Many Fair Trade Cooperatives reinvest their revenues to
strengthen their businesses and communities such as:
Building health clinics, houses, starting scholarship funds,
and providing leadership training for the artisans.

Pastor Appreciation Day

Gender Equity: Fair Traders emphasize of the value of

the work women perform, as producers and as organization
leaders. Women and men are paid equally for comparable
work. Sixty percent of the worlds 50 million working poor
are women according to the U. N. Conference on Trade
and Development. Women devote twice as much time to
unpaid work as men do. They represent the majority of
the worlds part time and informal sector workers and suffer
more unemployment than men do. Fair Trade strives to
eliminate these problems.
There are several places in the Logan area to buy
Fair Trade items. The Appalachian Art and Craft Mall in
Rockbridge, Hocking Hills Craft Mall and the Messenger &
Print Shops Gift Section.
Lets help spread happiness by buying Fair Trade!

Pastor Betty Brooks

October 19th was the

Sunday we dedicated to Pastor
Appreciation Day this year. Inside
the blue-roofed Smith Prayer
Chapel, sat Pastor Betty Brooks,
who, after her initial surprise
relinquished all former plans
for the service. A multitude of
tributes - some humorous, some
touching, but all involving our
much-loved Pastor, were shared
by and with the congregation.
The impromptu service included
much laughter, a sprinkling of
tears, and was finalized by a
heavy dose of prayer. Celebration
continued in the Fellowship Hall
where the carry-in meal and
commemorative cake were
enjoyed by all.
