Henry Moore

Who is Henry Moore ?


Henry Spencer Moore or Henry Moore was and still is famously known for being
an incredible Artist and Sculptor. However he is mainly well recognised for his
sculptures which seemed to revolved around the ideas of constructivism and
surrealism. He was born in Castleford, on 30 July 1896 and died on 31 August.
He was a determined young man and wanted to get a scholarship in a local
art college, but his father wouldn't allow him. In 1924 he was appointed to be
a sculptor instructor at the Royal College. His first commission was in 1928,
produced a sculpture for St Jame's underground building which was a
Headquarters for London Transport. In that same year, he also had his first oneman exhibition consisted of 42 sculptures and 51 drawings at the Warren
Gallery.
It is hard to say where he gets his ideas and his influences from since he is no
longer contemporary. However from research, it is possible that he was
influenced by the human body but more simplified. His ideas could have also
originated from the natural world.

to be sculpting one is his
masterpiece using a elephant
skull as an origin of an idea or
inspiration.

Here are some of Henry M oore work. His work has many
meanings behind it, especially the one he calls "M an
Enters the Cosmos which seems to a sculptor that is
similar to a sun dial, this seems to symbolise humanity's
knowledge of the universe.
