POLITICAL CHANGES

BUSH VS. GORE


Bush won the electoral vote.
There was a recount of votes in Florida.

Bush took his oath of office on January 20,2001.


Bush had become 43rd President of the United States.

9/11
On September 11, 2001 America was attacked.
Four coordinated attacks were launched by the Islamic
terrorist group al-Qaeda.
Terrorists hijacked four passenger airliners so they could be
flown into important buildings.
Two of the planes destroyed the World Trade Center and one of
the planes destroyed the Pentagon.

About 3,000 people died in this horrific tragedy.

THE WAR IN IRAQ


On March 20, 2003 America invaded Iraq.
America and the UK believed that Iraq was producing
Weapons of Mass Destruction.
The invasion led to the capture, trial, and execution of
Saddam Hussein, President of Iraq.
After Hussein and his party were defeated the U.S. set up
democratic voting and a new government.

IMPORTANT PEOPLE

STEVE JOBS
Steve Jobs was an inventor, genius, and entrepreneur.
He co-founded one of the biggest electronics companies in the world, Apple Inc.

Jobs made Apple one of the most valuable publicly traded companies.
Jobs has been described as Father of the Digital Revolution.
Apple products like the iPhone and iPod helped shape Americas culture during
the 2000s

BILL GATES
Bill Gates is the co-founder of Microsoft, the worlds largest
personal-computer software company.
Gates was very influential in shaping the world of technology

with his new ideas and powerhouse, Microsoft.


Bill Gates is currently the richest man in the world.
He donates billions of dollars to charities every year.
Microsoft is responsible for the widely used operating system
Windows and the extremely popular Xbox.

GEORGE BUSH
The 43rd President of the United States.
Criticized for many of his decisions and disliked by many people.
Although he may have been disliked, Bush was able to react very well to
the attack on September 11th.
Bush also gave much needed aid the poverty stricken continent of
Africa.

SERGEY BRIN AND


LARRY PAGE

Co-founders of Google.
They are both geniuses that developed the google search

engine when they were still in college.


Google is not only an extremely popular search engine but
a company that makes all kinds of software and hardware.
These two men revolutionized the internet forever.

SOCIAL CHANGES

TELEVISION
During this decade, the narrative television series was
born.
Breaking Bad, The Wire, The Office

Netflix unveiled Unlimited Streaming in 2008.


Birth of Reality TV

MOVIES
CGI became prominent
3D became popular
Super Hero Movies
Musical Movies
The Dark Knight, Napoleon Dynamite, Brokeback Mountain,
Memento

VIDEO GAMES
Video gaming became huge in the 2000s
America saw the 6th and the 7th generation of gaming consoles.
Sony released the PS2 in 2000, Nintendos Gamecube in 2001
along with Microsofts Xbox.
In 2005 Microsoft released its Xbox 36o, Nintendos Wii in 2006
followed by Sonys PS3
Games like Halo, GTA, Zelda , and Super Smash Bros. became
extremely popular during this time.

TEXTING

Texting became extremely popular in the 2000s with the


invention of phones that mad it easy.

Texting changed how society communicated and made


many lives easier.
Communication could be less formal than a phone call
and it could be sent in an instant.

HISTORICAL EVENTS

HURRICANE
KATRINA
Hurricane in 2005 that destroyed Louisiana.
Thousands were injured, around 1800 were killed.
Houses were decimated.
People sought shelter in the Super Dome.

SHOOTING
April 16th, 2007
Seung-Hui Choi went into the University and open fired.
He shot 56 people, 32 died.

Premeditated
Committed suicide after.

MARS ROVER
LANDING
In June and July, 2003, two rovers were sent to mars.
Successfully landed in January, 2004.
Would give evidence that water was on Mars.
First time America put something on Mars.

In 2003, Toyota introduced the Hybrid Car.
Ran on both gas and electricity.
Could park itself.
Saved owners thousands on as money.
