Introduction

Introduction
There are many excellent restaurants in Denton Texas especially on Fry Street. These restaurants
have amazing selections of food with many tasty desserts. So we decided to go to four different
restaurants in the Fry Street area and try their best desserts. This guide will show our methods for
choosing the restaurant with the best dessert, our initial report on the desserts, our concluding
statements about the desserts, and our recommendations.
The four restaurants we decided to try were Potbelly Sandwich Shop, Yogurt land, Sushi Caf
and Bar, and Mikes Coffee Shop. We chose each of these restaurants at random and each of us
sampled the desserts. Then we took note of all our opinions and our overall rating.

Methods

Methods
In order to decide for the best dessert in the Fry Street area, we set out to a total of four different
restaurants. Our study excluded large chain restaurants and bars found in this are; restaurants
such as Chipotle Mexican Grill and the Fry Street Tavern were not evaluated. The study was
performed at 11a.m, before rush hour, and lasted until noon that same day. In each restaurant we
asked employees for their most popular dessert. We gave points for six different criteria:
1. Cleanliness/atmosphere
2. Friendliness
3. Variety/menu options
4. Cost
5. Appearance
6. Taste
Each criteria was given a score from 1-5. The score given for each criteria was added to get the
total score for that particular restaurant. The restaurant with the dessert that has the most points
was the one recommended for this study.
The study was based on the taste of four people who gathered information about each dessert.
Disclaimer: The following data collected is based solely on the opinion of the four members that
performed the study. Opinions may vary depending upon the palate (taste) of each individual.

Conclusions
1. Big Mikes Coffee
1306 W Hickory St, Denton, TX 76201
(940) 565-1860

Vegan Walnut Pumpkin Bread

The positives were that it was down-to-earth, relaxed, and had free WiFi. The server was very friendly
and she made an effort to recommend the sample in question. She would do well in a different
establishment because she tried to make the customers feel welcome, not just make a sale. Only her
surroundings limited her.
Unfortunately, the dessert was ordinary, and homemade versions would be better. But due to the low
lighting, damaged floor, open closet, dirty environment, and limited choices, the venue is not
recommended. Even if one wanted a place to study and relax, there is insufficient light to perform that
endeavor without eye strain. They need to take lessons from Jupiter House on the Denton Square.

2. Potbelly Sandwich Shop

Peanut Butter & Banana Shake

This place was cleaner, but did not take the students to another place to relax. It seemed like they were
attempting to make it look like an era, but it failed. A 1950s-style shop would have been a good choice,
but that opportunity was missed. Oddly enough, Big Mikes Coffee did a better job of relaxation.
The taste was pretty good, but it lacked effort to make it look enticing. It was a paper cup with a plastic
lid, looking like an ordinary soft drink. They failed to issue 4 straws. They could have followed Steak &
Shakes example by placing them in metal or glass containers; and adding whipped cream, cherries, and
chocolate syrup. Its all in the presentation; and it missed the mark. A request was required to
accommodate the group. They also failed to issue a receipt. And the price does not reflect quality or
service. I do not recommend this place, as Sonic and Smoothie King are superior. And Orange Julius is
far superior.

3. Sushi Caf
1401 W Oak St, Denton, TX 76201

Fried Green Tea Ice Cream

When we stepped inside, it felt like we traveled far to another side of town. It was clean, followed an
Asian theme, and comfortable inside. The servers were very friendly and accommodated us with extra
spoons and cut the dessert into 4 pieces without asking! They were eager to serve and made the
treatment from staff in Big Mikes Coffee and Yogurtland look complacent and uninterested (by
comparison). They really went the extra mile. The presentation was excellent! The fried ice cream
rested in a square bowl, was covered in whipped cream, and drizzled with chocolate syrup. It was the
first dessert to be worthy of TV or a magazine. The variety was not the highest, but was roughly average
for a restaurant. The cost was average; but reasonable for the sheer amount of dessert served.
Measuring volume and density, if Big Mikes Coffee had the same amount of food, it would easily be more
than three times as expensive. The taste was amazing and caught us off guard. It was the best-tasting
dessert of the 4 establishments. None come close.

4. Yogurtland

Cookie Butter Frozen Yogurt with added Oreo Bits

Strawberry Frozen Yogurt with added Strawberry topping
This venue was very clean, but felt like a mall. It was a little cramped and did not relieve stress like the
Sushi Caf, but can make the customer feel that they are rushed, and cannot enjoy themselves. It lacked
a sense of connectedness. The employee was less than enthusiastic to help ushe ignored us partially.
One of our members had to wait for service, even though we were acknowledged when we entered and
there was no one else in line.
This place had the highest variety and was customizable. The price was very good, but presentation
could have been better. The bowls were not metal, glass, or ceramic. I recommend Yogurtland for those
on a budget and a quick snack; but for a quality dessert experience, I do not recommend this place.

Recommendations

Recommendations
We highly recommend Sushi Caf based on our research. For an experience which takes you far away
from daily stresses and anxiety, this is the most logical and fitting choice. The complementary flavors of
ice cream, whipped cream, green tea, and chocolate syrup were phenomenal. The friendly service,
atmosphere, and themes make Sushi Caf truly worth it.
