how everything around them is unique, just like snowflakes. Next the students will learn about snow, their crystals, and
the different categories they can be placed in. Last the students will create paper snowflakes of their own and write how
they are unique.
Lesson Objectives: (Excellent resource at http://www.teachervision.fen.com/curriculum-planning/new-teacher/48345.html?for_printing=1&detoured=1): What you want the students to do. *
1. Visual Art: The students will be able to . . .construct a unique snowflake by using construction paper, scissors, and paint
2. Literacy: The students will be able to . . .understand the book "No Two Alike" by Keith Baker and write reasons that make them unique
3. Science: The students will be able to...define the word snowflake and understand what makes them different
(3-4) (http://dese.mo.gov/divimprove/curriculum/GLE/)
Identify & define common vocabulary that connect the art form with the
other identified content areas:
Snowflake: a cluster of snow crystals that have stuck together as they fall to
the ground
Snow crystal: Different kinds of snow crystals result from certain
combinations of conditions, particularly temperature and moisture level, in
the clouds and near the Earths surface
Unique: Being the only one of its kind, unlike anything else
How will you adapt the various aspects of the lesson to differently-abeled students?
If a student is unable to cut out or draw own snowflake there will be pre-made cut out snowflakes that student can have to paint on
If students attention problems sit them next to a model student who will be an example for them to stay on track
What opportunities/activities will students be given to revise and improve their understandings and their work?
Returning summative assessment back to students and letting them see errors they made and letting them fix them and turn it back in
Allowing students to continually make corrections until the summative assessment is done correctly
What opportunities/activities will you provide for students to share their learning in this lesson?
The formative assessments through out the lesson will allow students to raise their hands and share things that are unique around them and what makes
them personally unique, which will show they understand the definition
Students will complete snow crystal worksheet to turn in to share with me what they learned from the lesson
