The main function of the Department is to foster and promote standards, standardisation and acoreditation as a means of advancing the national economy, promoting industrial efficiency and development, benefiting the health and safety of the public, protecting the consumers, facilitating domestic and international trade and furthering international cooperation in relation to. standards and standardization. Malaysian Standards are developed through consensus by committees which comprise of balanced representation of producers, users, consumers and others with relevant interests, as may be appropriate to the subject in hand. These standards where appropriate are adoption of international standards. Approval of a standard as a Malaysian Standard is governed by the Standards of Malaysia Act 1996 (Act 549). Malaysian Standards.are reviewed periodically. The use of Malaysian Standards is voluntary except in so far as they are made mandatory by regulatory authorities by means of regulations, local by-laws or any other similar ways. The Department of Standards appoints SIRIM Berhad as the agent to develop Malaysian Standards, The Department also appoints SIRIM Berhad as the agent for distribution and sale of Malaysian Standards. Development of this standard was carried out by the Construction Industry Development Board Malaysia (CIDB) which is the Standards-Writing Organisation (SWO) appointed by SIRIM Berhad to develop standards for the construction industry. MS 1064 consists of the following parts under the general title “Guide to modular coordination in buildings” : Part1 : General principles Part2_: Storey heights and room heights Part 3: Coordinating sizes and preferred sizes for stairs and stair openings Part4 : Coordi 's and preferred sizes for doorsets Part5 : 9's and preferred sizes for windowsets Part 6 Coordinating sizes and preferred sizes for rigid flat sheets Part? : Coordinating sizes and preferred sizes for tiles Part 8 : Coordinating sizes and preferred sizes for masonry bricks and blocks Part9_: Coordinating sizes and preferred sizes for cabinets, Part 10 : Coordinating sizes and preferred sizes for reinforced concrete components Compliance with a Malaysian Standard does not of itself confer immunity from legal obligations. MS 1064 : PART 10 : 2001 GUIDE TO MODULAR COORDINATION IN BUILDINGS : PART 10: COORDINATING SIZES AND PREFERRED SIZES FOR REINFORCED CONCRETE COMPONENTS SECTION 1 : GENERAL 1.0 Introduction A series of modular standards for the standardisation of building components are being produced to facilitate towards rationalisation and industrialisation of this sector in the country. ‘The components considered in this standard are concrete components which are load- bearings. These components may be elther precast or cast insitu Reinforced Concrete, for which the coordinating dimensions are given. The spaces for these components have been related to the horizontal and vertical plane of the modular controlling reference system, Reference system to which horizontal dimensions are related, is shown in Figure 1. 9° 9 oxo nem 9 I 1 ° THe op Boon B-0 ° i 1 1 1 y) I 1 1 1 8 al | ' ‘| a | i I 1 \ i Lo \ 1 ° ot fy --------f --O 3 1 1 ‘ \ | ° 6 6 a) Face Planning b) Axial Planning Figure 1. The components included in this part are beams, columns, walls and slabs. The components are to be load-bearing and to be used in buildings, with particular reference to those constructed on the principles of modular coordination in accordance with MS 1064 : Part 1. 1.3.
