Woodworking:

Working with wood has come a long way since the Stone Age when primitive

human beings used wood along with other materials such as stone, mud and animal parts to produce tools
and equipment to fulfill their needs. However the challenges of working with varying fiber, grain,
hardness and fragility have remained.
Wood being a contemporary artistic medium meets both traditional and modern needs; being naturally
versatile it is an ideal material to create with. It is used in all manner of guises from creating a simple
chair to an elaborate sculpture, jewelry to salad bowls. The attraction of this material is not simply its
adaptability, but also the manner in which the complexity of the woodworking can make an object very
aesthetically pleasing, incorporating natural beauty, texture and durability.
In order to produce state of the art wooden-based furniture and overcome the difficulties that occur
during the woodworking design and also challenge the conventional designs some high end gear and
sophisticated tools are required, which are a must in a woodworkers store and mentioned below as
follows:
CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing): These software are essential
for rapid prototyping the object being designed; they are used to model woodworking design with high
precision and accuracy.

The Chisel
An assortment of chisels should be part of every woodworkers store. They are not only used for carving
wood but also used to clean out joints and saw cuts. High-alloy carbon steel or chromium-vanadium
alloyed steel are some of the well-known chisel types. Hardwood grips along with metal caps are the best,
they keep the end of the handle from becoming mal-formed when you hammer on it.

The Nail Set

The next hand tool every woodworker should own is a nail set. In fact, you should have several sizes.
They look like awls, and you use them to drive nail heads into the wood so they are flush or right below
the surface. This allows a person to fill the holes and prepare for staining or painting. The nail setter will
usually have either a convex or concave surface to grip the nail better and keep it from sliding off and
marring the wood.
The Layout Square
A layout square comes either in 6 or 12 sizes. Most woodworkers use the 6 model, simply because its
easiest to carry around. The layout square is a triangle that you can use to mark square cuts on stock.
Once the length of the cut is measured, the layout square is lined up with the edge of the board. The short
side gives a straight, square cut across the end grain. Angles can also be measured using a layout square.
This helps when one is trying to measure for a bevel on a table saw, or marking a cut for a miter saw. It
can also be used to determine an existing angle. The best ones that should be present in a woodworkers
store are the ones made of metal.

Circular saw:
The most versatile basic handheld power tool that should be present in a woodworkers store is a circular
saw. When used with a clamp-on straight-edge, the circular saw can be just about as accurate as a table
saw and handle quite a few of the tasks that one would attempt with a table saw, particularly cutting sheet
goods such as plywood or medium-density fiberboard. When woodworking on a budget, a quality circular
saw should be the first handheld power tool purchased, as it is the one that will likely be the most useful
as a person gets started.

Power Drill:
A corded power drill is versatile and powerful when it comes to drilling fines holes for screws.
These power drills have typically variable speeds, which can be very useful when one needs to slow down
the action. Additionally, some power drills incorporate a hammering action that, while not usable for
woodworking, is handy for drilling through concrete, bricks or cinder blocks.
Essential features for a woodworker to look for are a keyless chuck, reversible action and comfortable
grip.
Jigsaw:
Another tool for on owner of a woodworker store is the Jigsaw. It allows the user to cut elliptical and
circular patterns in stock. For versatility, an orbital-action, corded jigsaw that has a comfortable grip and
an easy blade changing system is chosen.
Table saw:
The table saw is the heart and soul of every woodworking store, it is the centerpiece around which all of
the other tools are used and organized. Since Table saw is a major tool purchase, one must buy the best
one that can be afforded comfortably. Every table saw should have a smooth, heavy work surface, a
handle for raising and lowering the saw blade, a separate handle for adjusting the angle of the blade and
connections for dust collection. The saw should have a strong motor that starts smoothly with little
vibration and enough horsepower to make deep cuts through harder woods.
