Target language: in, at, on
Activity type: board game
When to use: Use this activity after Lesson 7.3.
Time taken: 20 minutes
Preparation: Photocopy one worksheet for each group of three or four students in the class;
three/four counters and a die for each group.
Procedure

Put students into groups of three or four and give each group a copy of the game board and
three/four counters and a die. Students throw the die. The student who throws the highest
number starts by throwing the die again and moving forward the appropriate number of
spaces. He/she then asks the student on his/her right the question in the circle that he/she
has landed on, e.g. Whens your birthday? The student on the right answers the question
using the appropriate preposition, e.g. Its on 22nd November. If the other students are
happy that the answer is grammatically correct, the student who answered the question
remains on his/her circle. If the wrong preposition has been used, the student has to go
back one circle (unless he/she has yet to get off the START).
Students take it in turns to throw the die and move forward, asking the questions to the
person on his/her right, until one of the students reaches the FINISH circle.
In open class, ask two or three students to feed back any interesting information that they
learnt about students in their group.
