Parent Volunteers

Parent volunteers are a welcome and important part of the education programs. Many programs
and activities would not be possible without your help. Please feel free to contact me if you would
like to assist in this manner. Parent volunteers are required to sign in at the office and obtain a
volunteer label before coming onto the campus. Parents who would like to volunteer must have a
current, clear tuberculosis test on file in the TES office. TB test results are good for four years.
Parents must complete a Megans Law background paperwork and provide a copy of drivers
license to front office. District guidelines require that younger siblings not accompany
their parents who volunteer during regular school hours.

Homework
The Temecula Valley Unified School District and Governing Board recognizes that homework
contributes toward building responsibility, self-discipline and life-long learning habits, and that time
spent on homework directly influences students ability to meet the districts academic standards.
Homework is a valuable part of the instructional program. Students should be able to complete
homework independently, or with minimal supervision. Parents are encouraged to show interest in
their child's work and provide an appropriate setting, free of distraction, to promote quality work.
Homework is usually assigned Monday through Thursday. Students should be expected to spend
an average of 15-30 minutes on homework at the primary level (1st grade) and an average of 45-60
minutes at the intermediate level, four days a week. Reading should be a part of each nights
homework. The more students read the better readers they become.
Homework assignments in grades 1-2 should promote the development of skills and encourage
family participation.

Attendance/Absences/Tardiness
All children are expected to be in attendance each day unless they are ill or a family emergency
arises. A personal call to the office by the parent regarding an absence should be made the
day of the absence. Students may bring a note from parents the day they return to school, if they
are unable to call. (951) 000-0000.
The State no longer provides funding for your childs education when he or she is not in school for
any reason. If your child is ill, home is the proper place for him or her. Children must stay home for
24 hours following a fever or in the case of vomiting or diarrhea.
It is the parent's responsibility to get their children safely to school at the appropriate times. Though
we will do everything within reason to contact parents if their child is absent prior to 12 noon on the
day of the absence, this is not always possible.
The classroom teacher, or the office, will contact the parents for absences that remain uncleared
after the student has returned to school. Parents may be contacted at work, if necessary, to clear
these absences.
The warning bell rings at 8:50 a.m. and students are to be in their seats ready to start the
day at 8:55 a.m. Should a student arrive late to school, he/she must get a tardy note from the
office. Frequent tardiness without a valid excuse is considered truancy under the law.
We realize that there will be instances when your child may be tardy, but please avoid this
whenever possible as tardiness interrupts your childs instructional time and the classroom learning
environment. School attendance is crucial for your childs success in school; therefore, please
schedule appointments during non-school times whenever possible.

Early Check Out


Although we prefer that you schedule appointments after school hours, we realize it can be difficult.
If it is necessary that you pick up your child before 3:20 p.m., please come to the office and we will
call your childs room for you while you sign them out. A note to the teacher informing him/her of
the time that your child will be leaving will enable the teacher to have your child ready to leave
when you arrive at school. If a person other than a parent is picking up your child, it is
necessary that we receive this information in writing prior to pick up. We will only
release your child(ren) to people listed on the emergency card with proper
identification.

Modified Days
This year every Wednesday will be a modified day. All K-5th grade students will be
dismissed at 1:00 p.m.
