In what extend was the cold war about image?

The cold war was a lot about image because the two strongest nations in the theme of
weapons are opposite opinion and tried to force the other one back and tried to show
their people that they are the strongest country in the world. It almost ended in a
nuclear war but luckily the people who made the decisions were smart enough to stop
before it was that far.
