Grammar Mini Lesson

Outcomes:
Students will be able to show their comprehension of the purpose and function of an
adjective by creating a word wall and completing an alliterative adjective activity.
Time:
15 minutes
Materials:
Poster board/white board, markers, paper, pencil, sheet of paper that explains the
definition of an adjective, paper with examples of adjective, picture that students are
to describe
Connection:
The students are about to write their paper. In order to create a paper with imagery
and a papers that puts forth pathos, students must have a wide variety of
descriptive language. This means that they must be able to use various adjectives.
Anticipatory Set:
This activity will encourage students to use their prior knowledge. There will be a
list of words on the board. The student must identify which words are adjectives
and then write them down. They will share their guesses/knowledge and explain
why they chose those words.
Activities:
- Anticipatory set (4 minutes)
- Mini Lecture: explaining what an adjective is, its purpose, and examples. (2
minutes)
- Ask for students to work collectively to come up with examples, have them
share their groups examples and record them. (2 minutes)
- Have students create an alliterative adjective sentence about an object in this
picture (4 minutes):

Closure (4 minutes)

Closure:
Ask the students to share their examples aloud. Then ask the class how adjectives
helped them better picture what their classmate was describing.

- Alliterative sentence
- Group Adjectives
