Artifact Reflection Health and Human Performance Portfolio

University of Wisconsin- Platteville

Title of Experience/Artifact: Personal Training Level 2 Internship

Date Experience Completed: Fall 2014 semester
Educational experience/artifact:

I utilized reflection with a personal training client in order to determine gains in physical
ability throughout the program.
UW-Platteville Health and Human Performance Standard Alignment

1. Reflection was met during this experience. Reflection is defined as the health
promoter is a reflective practitioner who continually evaluates the effects of
his/her choices and actions on others (clients, volunteers and other professionals
in the health promotion community) and who actively seek out opportunities to
grow professionally.
2. In my case I utilized reflection in order to determine the effects of my choices on
a client.
3. I demonstrated competence in the health and human performance standard of
reflection by asking questions to my client during sessions and determining
whether or not the sessions were facilitating an environment that allowed the
client to feel comfortable while achieving success. I utilized a pre, mid, and post
evaluation in order to reflect on whether or not the program was working for the
clients goals.
4. KS4.a.Reflects on Teaching. The candidate makes an accurate and thoughtful
reflection on his/her teaching effectiveness, is aware of specific elements of
his/her teaching that contributed to successful instruction, and can offer
alternative teaching action to predict the future successes of alternate approaches.
I showed competency in this skill, by reflecting on the evaluations conducted pre
and mid program and was able to develop an alternative approach to create more
success.
What I learned:

I learned that reflection is a very important part of any personal training program. Not

only is it helpful to gauge success, but it is also helpful for professional development.
Furthermore, teaching clients to have the ability to reflect on their sessions will also
allow for more efficient operation as time goes on.
What I learned about myself:

I learned that as a prospective health promotion specialist that reflection is something I

am good at, and can explain to the client very well.
