What were the strengths of the traditional business model of

SHMEC prior to E-business transformation?

The company was rich in fixed assets
It always had a large inventory of products with diverse
specifications, so shortage was never a possibility
It had a diverse and rich customer base and had top notch stock
bearing firms as their partners
The company had a strong IT Application base, having introduced
LAN as early as 1991 & CAN in 1996.
Employees were already IT familiar
The chain store model that the company used led to a complete
understanding of centralized procurement and selling.
The logistics and distribution system associated with the company
was adept at handling the corresponding nuances of the electrical
and mechanical equipment sector.

What are the environmental factors necessary for the

success of this new business model?
Need to pay more attention to integration with suppliers working
process and information systems
Need to deal with emergencies through the internet exchange
platform in terms of solving the issues like customers requests
without prior notice or in small quantities or with short lead time
Developing appropriate human resource so that personnel
problems like traditional mind-sets, profit readjustment for
stakeholders and addressing the hindrances from old structure
could not become a bottleneck for management
Need for continuous innovations and improvements for SHMECs
transformation with the help of e-business and to keep the
company growing
