Assignment03TeamDebate:OkCupid(Pro)

ProblemStatement:WastheexperimentconductedbyOKCupidethical?IsitethicalforOkCupidto
usetheirTermsandConditionstojustifytheircompanysexperiment?

OURSTRONGESTARGUMENT:Theusersagreetoallofthetermsandconditionsuponusingthe
OKCupidservice.Inaddition,OkCupidsactionsprovidedapredictablenetbenefitwithlittle
possibilityofharmtoitscustomers.
THEIRSTRONGESTARGUMENT:
Thetermsandconditionsaretoocomplicatedandconvolutedtounderstandintermsoflegal
jargon.
OkCupidbreachedthetrustoftheircustomersbyprovidingfalsematchmakingresults.
COUNTERPOINTTOTHEIRARGUMENT:
Examples,includingchangeandstorageofdataandusageofdataforresearchpurposesare
clearlyandexplicitlylistedintheTermsandConditionsandPrivacyPolicy.
ForthematchmakingresultstobefalsewouldrequireOkCupidtohaveknowledgeaboutthe
effectivenessoftheiralgorithmthattheycouldnothavewithoutperforminganexperimentlike
this.
