Title:

Fire on Camilla C

Summary:

The fishing vessel CAMILLA C departed Gilleleje at 1315 on 20

December 2012 with one fisherman on board in order to trawl for
Norway lobster and sole east of the island of Hessel in the Kattegat.
The same evening at approximately 1845 the fisherman was engaged
in a VHF conversation with another fishing vessel when he observed
the instruments flashing and became aware of a unusual smell in the
wheelhouse.
When the fisherman came on deck in order to examine the engine
room, he saw black smoke coming from the hatch leading to the
engine room. When he opened the hatch he immediately observed
flames in the engine room, and it was evident to him that he would
have to abandon the vessel. The fisherman dressed up in immersion
suit and released the life raft after which he abandoned the vessel.
The fisherman was shortly after picked up by another fishing vessel
fishing nearby.
The Admiral Danish Fleet (SOK) received a distress call on VHF Ch. 16
at 1857 on the 20 December and a rescue helicopter was immediately
scrambled from the airport of Roskilde. At 1903 SOK received
information from the fishing vessel that picked up the fisherman from
the life raft, that the fisherman was safe and did not not evacuation
by helicopter. SOK then released the rescue helicopter and it returned
to Roskilde.
At 0456 on 21 December 2012 a navy vessel, which until than had
been standing by near the burning fishing vessel, observed that
CAMILLA C had sunk.
