Dear Parent/Carer,
I am writing to inform you of a proposed Year 8 educational visit to York Dungeons, the Jorvik Centre, a tour of the City of York and a boat
trip on the River Ouse. We will also be having lunch at the Pizza Hut restaurant next door to the Dungeons. The visit will take place on
Wednesday 4th February 2015 with the visit aimed at supporting the work learners have done in lessons based on the everyday life of
people living in Britain from 1485-1750 as well as the key events in the Stuart period. The visit also allows learners to experience the
History of their local area of Yorkshire which is a National Curriculum requirement. It is the aim of the History department to take 100 year
8 learners on the visit and places will be awarded on a first come first served basis.
For lunch, learners will be eating at the Pizza Hut Restaurant that is next to the York Dungeons in 2 sittings, the price of this is incorporated
in to the price of the visit. Learners will be allowed unlimited drinks, pizza and salad that will be served as part of the Lunchtime buffet deal.
Learners wishing to purchase anything else from Pizza Hut will need to pay for it themselves. School uniform will need to be worn and
learners are welcome to bring a small amount of money to spend in the gift shop and for any extra food they wish to purchase at Pizza Hut.
The coach will depart from Darton College at 9.00am on Wednesday 4th February 2015 in order to arrive in York for a 10.30am start. On
returning, the coach will depart from York at 5.00pm and will expect to return to Darton College at approximately 6.30pm traffic conditions
permitting. Learners will need to be collected from school or arrangements made for them to get home safely due to the return after
3.20pm.
The total cost of the visit will be 34 which includes transport costs, entrance into the York Dungeons, the Jorvik Centre, a tour of York and
lunch at Pizza Hut. Please complete the reply slip below and return to the Admin/Finance Office with the payment of 34 before Friday 16th
January 2015. Cheques should be made payable to Darton College, with your childs name and form written on the reverse or you can
now make payments online and give your consent for this trip on www.schoolgateway.com. If you are a new user please select New User
and enter your email address and mobile telephone number you have registered with the school. The system will send a PIN code to your
phone; please enter this PIN code and your account will be activated for you. As soon as youve got the system set-up, you will be able to
pay money to the school online rather than sending cash or cheques. If you have recently changed your email address or mobile
telephone number, please let us know so we can update our records.
If your child has not returned the annual parental consent form they will need to collect one from the Admin/Finance office and return this to
college prior to the visit taking place. If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact on the number above.
