Chapter 4 Practice Test

**Finding Slopes and Graphing Lines**
Please read each question carefully before answering. If a question has multiple parts, make sure to answer
each part. You may use calculators on this test. Please ask Mr. Halpin any questions you have while quizzing.

For numbers 1) through 3), rewrite the equation in slope-intercept (y = mx + b) form if necessary,
then identify the slope and y-intercept.

For numbers 4) through 6), find the slope of the equation that passes through the given points.
5) (2, 0) and (4, 9)

6) (5, 4) and (1, 8)

For Numbers 7) and 8), make a table of values for the given equation.

For Numbers 7) through 9), graph the given equation by using the slope and y-intercept. Please do

9) 2x 3y = 4

For numbers 10) through 12), find the x- and y-intercepts of the given equations, and graph the line.

13) Olivia Paige Dawson is building personal robots some for delivering mail (costing her $25 a
piece) and some for performing open heart surgery (costing her $100 a piece). She has $1000 to
spend. This situation is modeled by the equation 25m + 100h = 1000 where m is the number of
mail-delivery robots she builds and h is the number of heart surgery robots she builds. Find the
intercepts of the graph of the equation. Then graph the equation. Give three possibilities for the
number of mail-delivery and heart surgery robots she could build (1 extra example has been
provided).

14) Jack Dellikore Muncey wants to blow up 6 balloons. It takes him 15 seconds to blow up one red
balloon, and 20 seconds to blow up one green balloon ("Greens be always the tougher!" -Space
Pirate). Write an equation for the total time T it takes him to blow up balloons if he blows up
exactly r red balloons.

Now rewrite the equation in y = mx + b

form (we are using r in place of x and T in
place of y). Graph the equation.

Extra Credit)
Using any method you think best, find an x and y value that works in both of the given equations at
the same time:
10x + 10y = 30
5y = 4x
