The Manitowoc Police Department and the Citizens Academy Alumni are proud to announce
the posting of the 2015 Citizens Academy Application. The Citizens Academy is a sought after
program offered to citizens. The Manitowoc Police Department Citizens Academy is an
eleven week program covering various aspects of law enforcement. Academy classes will
be held on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 - 9:30 PM, March 10th through May 12th, 2015, with
Graduation being held on May 19th. Interested citizens must be committed to attending ALL
sessions. You must be at least 18 years old or a senior in high school and can have no felony
convictions.
The Citizens Academy is designed to reach out to members of our community, and invite
them to learn more about the Manitowoc Police Department. Academy classes will be
taught by personnel of the Manitowoc Police Department, who will be open, honest, and
candid about their duties and experiences as a law enforcement officer. Class discussion
will be encouraged. Classroom lectures will be kept to a minimum, in order to maximize the
hands on practical exercises.
Topics which will be covered during the Academy will include: Police Department
Operations; Use of Force; Taser; Pepper Spray; Firearms; Traffic Stops; O.W.I./D.R.E.; Building
Searches; Domestic Violence; Crime Scene Investigations; Drug Awareness; Gangs; School
Resource Officer program; Internet Sex Predator Demonstration; Voice Stress Analyzer and
Courtroom Testimony.
The goal of the Citizens Academy is to provide graduates with a working knowledge of the
Manitowoc Police Department, and to strengthen community support and involvement with
the department. We look forward to your participation!!
Interested citizens should complete an application and return it in person to the Manitowoc
Police Department by 4:30 PM on January 23rd, 2015. The Application is available at
