Workshop: Repetend Hand-Out
Research Logs
I model for the students the type of
texts that I am looking for while
using the theme of identity in Lord
of the Flies to illustrate how the
repetend can be used. The Hook: is
that when student arrive on the first
class of this unit, the room will be
disguised to look like the scar of the
island. And there will be
illustrations of an atom bomb
exploding on the wall.
I have previewed the content of the
story thus far, and offered textual
examples of a repetend, and the
types of texts needed to satisfy the
assignment.
I am scaffolding for further
workshops, while ensuring that
students understand what is
expected from the from the
Repetend Proposals.
I have three example of texts that
we look at contemporaneously with
the emergence of the Multigenre
Project, the Research Logs, and the
Repetend Proposal. I expose the
students to each text strategically,
so as to not overwhelm them or
confuse them about the purpose or
expectations of the assignment.
The peer feedback in the workshop
will help to assess if students

repetend.
Model text: I use the model text to
present the types of genre
engagement that I am expecting.
The workshop is a more hands on
and peer-centered approach to
instructing the repetend concept.
Students will have a brief
designated time to internalize the
feedback from their three peers.
They will restate their response to
the overarching question, and then
propose their strongest repetend and
the runner-up.
I will collect these and cue that the
class is ending.
Students will explore their repetend
in their Research Logs.
