Philosophy Statement
I believe Music Education to be an essential ingredient in a schools curriculum to
complete a students self discovery and voice in the ensemble, school and world. In result, I
believe a healthy curriculum to be a batter of leadership opportunities, chances for varied levels
of learning, material to accelerate a students cognitive development, and supported opportunities
for student expression. Thus, a successful curriculum provides activities, concepts, expectations,
and overall learning to guide students interests and discovery. Similarly, my disciplinary process
will administer opportunities for students to assess themselves and each other while enforcing
positive, habitual behavior.
I believe in balancing the banking method and problem-posing method, to create a
wholesome and multi-tiered lesson plan to reach all levels of learning. Thus, music reading and
learning will be done through examination of the culture and history of the piece, the intention
and emotion behind the text, and parallel of annotations and notes to tell a story. As singers, our
voices are how the audience can react to a piece of music. Thus, my main focus will be to share
the emotion behind the piece, work on the musicality of the performance, and connect students
personal interest to develop a healthy, ever-improving sound.
I base my teaching around that all students will succeed and all students can learn the
tools to assess their own singing and learning. Students will be able to leave each class knowing
that their individual voice is important to the ensemble sound and to the overall improvement of
the performance. Students will be asked to participate in open ended discussions pertaining
evaluations of other performances, recorded evidence of themselves and the ensemble, and how
to improve the ensemble sound as a team, everyday. Through these activities and learning
segments, students of all levels will act like leaders and will have control over their
improvements. In sum, my philosophy is to provide the tools and techniques for students to
apply and identify their voice, needs, and ways to guide their own growth and learning for all
subjects and jobs.
