Carols in the Community at Christmas Time

Over the last week some of the KS2 children have been out and about singing carols to members of community. On Monday, Year 4
and Worship Band performed at the Day Care Centre and on Wednesday the Year 6 children performed at the Firs in the morning and
then the Year 4 children performed at the Venture Hall in the afternoon. All the musical activities were really well received and put
members of our community in the Christmas spirit. They all enjoyed joining the children in singing along to some carols at this magical
time of the year. All the children represented the school extremely well- we were very proud of them! We have already had bookings
for next year.

#DEAR
Whilst #DEAR may not be tending internationally - yet - it is definitely getting noticed!
Our #DEARSelfie tweets have been favourited and re-tweeted by illustrator Sarah McIntyre (Cakes in Space, Oliver and the Seawigs,
Jampires) and author Tom Palmer (Over the Line, Football Academy, Scrum)!
Hopefully, our #DEAR4Christmas Reading Challenge 'Selfies' will get us noticed by even more writers and illustrators!

Year 5 and Year 6 Get Excited About Reading!
On Thursday 11th December, Year 5 and Year 6 were introduced to some of the fantastic new books
which will be added to our School Library by 14th January 2015 - the launch date for the next phase of
our reading project!
We are adding a wide selection of fiction genres, poetry, picture books (including picture books for KS2
pupils!) and non-fiction for pupils in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.
A personal favourite of mine is 'Oh No!' by Patrick George in which each page reveals something
unexpected!

Night.

We are going to audit our Rec/KS1 banded reading books in the New Year in order to enhance our
reading provision. We would therefore be grateful if you could ensure that all banded books are
returned to school by the end of the day on Tuesday 6th January. The audit will then take place on
Wednesday 7th January and therefore banded reading books will not be going home on Tuesday or
Wednesday during the first week back. We will let you know in a newsletter later in the term, the ways
in which we have enhanced the reading provision in Rec/KS1 as a result of our audit. Thank you!

Please put this date in your diary now!
On Wednesday 14th January 2015 we are launching more of our reading project.
In the evening we would like to invite the children back to school at 17:30 for hot chocolate and a
bedtime story. There will be lots of different members of staff reading lots of different stories. Parents
are welcome to come along and hear stories/take part in a Reading Workshop in the hall.
This is all part of our vision to ensure all children become lifelong readers for enjoyment.
