Topic outline:

Our unit of work is still How to Live

Forever but our key text is now
Frankenstein and we are investigating
electricity in Science.
English: the children are reading
Frankenstein and thoroughly enjoying it.
They will be writing a newspaper report
about the monster and a diary entry. We
are still encouraging children to do their
best writing in all subjects.
Mathematics: in maths the children are
developing their understanding of
fractions, decimals and percentages. The
children will also be applying their maths
knowledge across the curriculum and taking
part in problem solving and investigative
activities.
Science: in science we are investigating
electricity. We will be focussing on:
where electricity comes from, how to build
circuits, conductors and insulators.

Every week we will be setting the children a maths, literacy

and topic related challenge on our school blog. Perhaps you
can give your child everyday maths challenges. For example,
can they find the total cost of items in the supermarket?

Reading:
Every child has an individual reading book.
When reading with your child, you may want to
ask them questions similar to the following.
Also, every child has a reading bookmark, with
their reading level and reading target on.
Fiction: What has happened in the story so far?
What do you predict will happen? Which
character is your favourite and why? How do you
think this character feels and why?
Non-fiction: Can you tell me what you have
learnt from reading this? Who might read this
book? How do the layout features help you when
reading?
