Summer Olympics Scrip

Slide 1-The Summer Olympics:
The Summer Olympics is a time where people all around the world
focus on all the countries celebrating their best athletes talents.
The Summer Olympics is a global stage where some of the best athletes
compete against one another. It happens every 4 years.

Slide 2-Athens Greece 1896:


The First Summer Olympics appeared in Athens Greece. In Athens
there were only 14 countries and only a little bit over 200 men. It
was a very big deal and not a lot of men make in it. There were only
men in the Olympics in AThens.

Slide 3-Basketball:
Basketball has an interesting story behind it. It was created by
a young man named James Naismith. It was a school assignment to
create an indoor game for the winter. He created Basketball. To test
it out the janitor put peach baskets at each end of the gymnasium and
they used a small ball that bounced. It appeared in the Olympics at
the 1936 Olympics in Berlin Germany. It was played outside and it was
on a mud court. The first Olympic final was a very low scoring game.
The final score was USA-19, Canada-8.

Slide 4-Gymnastics
Gymnastics is one of the few sports that is still in the Olympics
now that was in the 1896 Olympics. It combines twisting, vaulting,
tumbling, and jumping. In the first olympics for the vault a bull
would charge at them and they would flip over the bull. In the
Olympics there are three different categories. Theres the team
competition, the individual all around, and theres the individual
events. There are 6 events for men, but there are only 4 events for
women. The best score in gymnastics is a 10. It is a really big sport
in the Olympics.

Slide 5-Swimming & Diving


Swimming & Diving are very similar, but they are completely
different events in the Olympics. Swimming was one of the first
sports in the Olympics. There are 16 events for both men and women.
Theres the IM which stands for individual medley, theres the main
strokes, freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. And
theres also the freestyle and medley relay. -Diving - Diving started
in the 1904 olympics in St. Louis, Missouri, USA. There are two kinds
of diving. There is platform and springboard. A perfect score is a 10.
Synchronised diving came in much later. That is when you have to be
doing the exact same motion as your partner at the exact same time.

Slide 6-Track and Field Part 1-Running:


Track was in the first Olympics in Athens, Greece. Like
basketball it was originally played on a mid track. They used ropes
to split the track into lanes. There are 3 different types of running.
The sprints which range from 100 meters to 500 meters. The
middle-distance running which is 800 meters to 3000 meters. And

theres the long-distance running which ranges from 3000 meters all
the way to a triathlon.

Slide 7-Track and Field Part 2-Field Events


There are many different Field Event in Track and Field.
Theres the High Jump, the Long Jump, the Triple Jump, the Pole
Vault, the Shot Pull, the Discus, the Hammer Through, the
Javelin, and more. The men do a decathlon which is 10 events.
And the women do a heptathlon which is 8 events. Track and Field
was the first Olympic sport, and it is the oldest sport.

Slide 8-100 Years of Olympics-Atlanta, Georgia, USA 1996


The 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia, USA was a big deal
because it was the 100 years of the Olympics. In the Atlanta
olympics, the gymnastics finals Kerri Strug broke her leg
during the vault, but with nothing on it she went again and
stuck her landing and got a perfect 10 to win. But a very bad
thing happened to. Eric Robert Rudolph bombed the Olympic Park
during the Olympics. It lead to 2 deaths (one was from a heart
attack) and 111 injuries.

Slide 9-Kerri Strug:


Kerri Strug was a USA gymnast. In the Atlanta 1996
Olympics she was in the gymnastics finals for the vault and on
her first try she fliped over the vault and landed on her leg and
fell. She got right up and tryed again and this time she stuck
her landing and ended up winning. After that she ended up
braking her leg, but she still won.

Slide 10-Usain Bolt


Usain Bolt is the fastest runner ever. He runs for Jamaica.
He holds lots of records. He holds world records for the 100 and
200 meters. His 100 meter time is 9.58 seconds which he set in
Berlin in 2009 which was not an Olympic games. And his 200
meter time is 19.19 seconds which he also set in Berlin in 2009.
He is really fast.

Slide 11-Michael Phelps


Michael Phelps is one of the best swimmers ever. He swims
for the USA. He holds 6 world records. The 100 meter butterfly,
the 200 meter butterfly, the 400 meter individual medley, and
three relay records. The 4X100 meter freestyle relay, the 4X200
meter freestyle relay, and the 4X100 medley relay. He also holds
the medal record for the most medals in one Olympics.
