1) Injuries classified according to cause

Direct injury
Injuries that result from forces generated from outside the body are known as direct injuries.
Common example include fractures, dislocation, sprains, strains and contusions.
These may occur as a result of a collision, fall or impact from object.
Example of direct injury :

When you dislocate your finger if it is hit on the end by a ball


during a tackle in rugby game
hockey stick impacting athlete leg

Indirect injury
-It is caused by forces inside the body, such as excessive strain on the muscles and ligaments.
-It can occur some distance from the impact site.
-The injury does not result from physical contact with an object or person, but from internal forces
built up by the actions of the performer, such as may be caused by over-stretching, poor technique,
fatigue and lack of fitness.
Example of indirect injury :
1) Hamstring tear
2) stress fractures in the joint of gymnasts
3) Player falling on outstretched arm dislocation clavicle/sternum joint
Overuse injury
When specific body regions are used over periods of time, particularly when the movements are
repetitive and low-impact.
Example of overuse injury
- Shin splints from running on the concrete every day.
-stress fracture
- Tennis elbow
2) Injuries classified according to tissue type :
1) Soft tissue injury
An injury to any tissue except bone and teeth.
2) Hard tissue injury
