Properties of some geometrical shapes

Right angle triangle

• Has a 90° angle

• The 3 angles add up to 180°

Isosceles triangle
A

B C

• The 2 sides with the ‘stroke’ (AB and AC) have the same length
• Angle ABC and angle ACB has the same angle.

Equilateral triangle

• All 3 sides have the same length

• All 3 angles are the same at 60°
Parallelogram
A B

C D

• Opposite sides are parallel to one another (AB // CD; AC // BD )

• Opposite sides have the same length (Side AC = BD; Side AB = CD)
• Opposite angles are equal (angle ACD = angle ABD; angle CAB = angle BDC)
• Angles on the same side add up to form 180° (angle ACD + angle CAB; angle
CAB + angle ABD; angle ABD + angle BDC; angle BDC + angle DCA)

Rhombus

A B

D
C

• Opposite sides are parallel to one another (AB // CD; AC // BD )

• ALL sides have the same length (Side AC = BD = AB = CD)
• Opposite angles are equal (angle ACD and angle ABD; angle CAB and angle
BDC)
• Angles on the same side add up to form 180° (angle ACD + angle CAB; angle
CAB + angle ABD; angle ABD + angle BDC; angle BDC + angle DCA)

Trapezium
A B

C D
• Has one pair of parallel lines opposite of each other (AB//CD)
• Angles on the same side of the parallel sides add up to 180° (angle ACD + angle
CAB; angle ABD + angle CDB)
