removed.
4. Studies of sensitivity to antifungal agents have shown that isolates from different strains are
sensitive to amphotericin and nystatin, but less sensitive to miconazole. Fluconazole is as effective as
newer agents such as itraconazole. The cyclodextrin solution of itraconazole and capsule
preparations of itraconazole are equally effective adjunct in the treatment but, because of side effect,
capsules are preferred. Therefore, to treat and prevent recurrence of denture-related stomatitis:

hypochlorite. Denture soak solutions containing benzoic acid completely eradicate C. albicans from
the dentures surface as it is taken up into the acrylic resin and eliminates the organism from the
internal surface of the prostesis. An oral rinse containing chlorhexidine gluconate also result in
complete elimination of the presence of C. Albicans on the acrylic resin surface of the denture, and in
reduction of palatal inflammation. A protease-containing denture soak (alcalase protease) is also an
effective way of removing denture plaque, especially when combined with brushing. Hypochlorite is
an effective anti-candidal, but can turn chrome cobalt denture black.

Effective agent include, nystatin pastilles or suspension, amphotericin lozenges or miconazole gel or
fluconazole suspension or tablets, administered concurrently with an oral antiseptic such as
chlorhexidine, which has antigungal activity.
5. Miconazole lacquer or antigungal such as fluconazole in tissue conditioner applied to the denture
fiiting surface are also effective
